## Maintaining Resources for a High-Rise Fire Maintaining the resources needed to keep the attack moving is the duty of another sector commander, the staging area officer. - A forward staging area should be set up approximately three floors below the fire to maintain the needed supplies and personnel on standby to feed up to the operations officer. - The forward staging area should be located in an area that provides ample storage. In areas where the on-duty strength of a department doesn't permit assigning 10 or 15 firefighters to the task, the logistical effort becomes even more critical. When you are shorthanded: - You need to get as much out of your suppression personnel as possible. - It may be possible to use nonsuppression personnel for support function - for example, building maintenance personnel or police officers, as long as they operate in nonthreatening environments. - It is best that this arrangement be made beforehand and that trial runs be performed periodically to give all involved a chance to see what roles they will play. ### Staging Area Essentials The staging area should be in an area that allows good communication with both the operations post and the CP, using as many means as possible. - The staging area should maintain a reserve force of at least two attack teams and two support teams of at least three members each, equipped for forcible entry and overhaul. - If necessary, these can consist of members who have been rotated off of the fire floor, once they've had their SCBAs serviced and have been given sufficient time to recuperate. ### Stairwell Support Having a reliable method
