Lesson: Techniques in Selecting and Organizing Information 1. Brainstorming List 2. Graphic Organizers 3. Topic Outline 4. Sentence Outline Brainstorming List -- Brainstorming is the process of generating ideas or topics to write about or discuss. -- The writer writes ideas in a list in the order in which they come to mind. Graphic Organizers --These are visual thinking tools that make pictures of your thoughts. The pictures demonstrate relationships between facts, concepts, or ideas. Concept Venn Map Diagram Flowcharts Tables Sequence Graphs Charts Topic Outline --allows writers to organize the topics of a paper quickly without going into details. Introduction Body Conclusion Sentence Outline --is a lists full sentences. A full sentence has a subject, a verb, and a predicate. Each sentence in a sentence outline is the first sentence of a paragraph as it will appear in the paper, and it shows exactly what you will say. Activity 1: A. Enumerate the four techniques in selecting and organizing information (1-4) B. Give three examples of graphic organizers. (5-7) C. Cohesion and Coherence --Cohesion is achieved when sentences are connected at the sentence level, whereas as coherence is achieved when ideas are connected. Language Use -- Language use in this research concerns the appropriate use of grammar and structure Mechanics -- It deals with correct spelling, pronunciation, capitalization and punctuation. Activity 2: A. Enumerate the four properties of a well-written text. (1-4) B. Give three patterns of Text Organization. (5-7) C. Fill in the blanks with correct word to complete the idea of the paragraph. (8-10) The language use in writing concerns with appropriate use of ________ and structure.
