## About Minoan Chronology In addition to the above chronological system, which utilizes the terms, Early, Middle, and Late Minoan and which was essentially created by Sir Arthur Evans, another system was proposed by Nicholas Platon. | Period | Dates | | ------------------ | ---------------- | | Pre-palace period | Prior to 2000 | | Old Palace Period | 2000/1900-1750 | | New Palace Period | 1750-1340 | | Post-Palatial Period | 1340-1075 | One should remember that this chronology is schematic as well, and that some aspects are open to debate and subject to revision. Characteristic examples of the pottery styles mentioned above (which are diagnostic when it comes to dating sites) will be shown. ## Minoan Pottery - Examples of Kamares ware, Old Palaces, Middle Minoan II, ca. 1800-1750 - Late Kamares jar with palm trees, MM III, ca. 1700 - Floral style jug from Phaistos, Late Minoan IA, ca. 1700-1600 - Marine style stirrup jar from Palaikastro, LM IB. ca. 1600-1500 - Palace style jar from Knossos with double axes, LM II, ca. 1500-1450 - Palace style jar from Knossos with Mycenaean helmet, LM II, ca. 1500-1450
