Three Major Groups of Islands: Luzon - is the largest group of islands. - Luzon can be found in the northern part of the country. - Manila is the Capital of city of the Philippines. Visayas - is the smallest group of islands in the Philippines. -Visayas is made up six major islands- Samar, Leyte, Panay, Negros, Cebu, and Bohol. Mindanao - is the second largest group of islands in the Philippines. - It is found in the southern part of the country. Total Land Area: 300,000 km2 Island – is a body of land surrounded by water. Archipelago – is a group of islands surrounded by water. Total Number of Islands: 7, 641 islands Currency: Philippine Peso Official Language: Filipino Capital: Manila Present President: Ferdinand Marcos Jr. FLAG OF THE PHILIPPINES The three stars represent the three major groups of islands in the Philippines: Luzon – largest group of islands Visayas – smallest group of islands Mindanao – second largest group of islands MGSSSI: School Year 2022- 2023 Mother Goose Special School System, Inc. Eight (8) rays of the sun represent the 8 provinces that led the Philippine uprising against Spanish rule. 8 rays of the sun of the flag symbolizes the provinces of Manila, Cavite, The Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Tarlac and Batangas. The blue color stands for peace, justice, sacrifice, and truth. The red color symbolizes bravery, courage, and patriotism. The white triangle represents fraternity, liberty, and equality. National Anthem – Lupang Hinirang Bayang Magiliw perlas ng Silanganan Alab ng puso Sa dibdib mo’y buhay Lupang hinirang Duyan ka ng magiting Sa manlulupig Di ka pasisiil.
