Three Major Groups of Islands: Luzon - is the largest group of islands. - Luzon can be found in the northern part of the country. - Manila is the Capital of city of the Philippines. Visayas - is the smallest group of islands in the Philippines. -Visayas is made up six major islands- Samar, Leyte, Panay, Negros, Cebu, and Bohol. Mindanao - is the second largest group of islands in the Philippines. - It is found in the southern part of the country. Total Land Area: 300,000 km2 Island – is a body of land surrounded by water. Archipelago – is a group of islands surrounded by water. Eight (8) rays of the sun represent the 8 provinces that led the Philippine uprising against Spanish rule. 8 rays of the sun of the flag symbolizes the provinces of Manila, Cavite, The Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Tarlac and Batangas. The blue color stands for peace, justice, sacrifice, and truth. The red color symbolizes bravery, courage, and patriotism. The white triangle represents fraternity, liberty, and equality.
