1987 Constitution- Article 1: NATIONAL TERRITORY The national territory comprises the Philippine archipelago, with all the islands and waters embraced therein, and all other territories over which the Philippines has sovereignty or jurisdiction, consisting of its terrestrial, fluvial and aerial domains, including its territorial sea, the seabed, the subsoil, the insular shelves, and other submarine areas. The waters around, between, and connecting the islands of the archipelago, regardless of their breadth and dimensions, form part of the internal waters of the Philippines. FACTS ABOUT THE PHILIPPINES The Philippines is an archipelago composed of about 7,641 islands with atotal land area, including inland bodies of water, of 300,000 square kilometers(115,831 sq mi). The 36,289 kilometers (22,549 mi) of coastline makes it the country withthe fifth longest coastline in the world. The Exclusive economic zone of the Philippines covers 2,263,816 km2(874,064 sq mi). It is located between 116° 40', and 126° 34' E longitude and 4° 40' and21° 10' N latitude and is bordered by the Philippine Seal 159] to the east, theSouth China Sea to the west, and the Celebes Sea to the south. The island of Borneo is located a few hundred kilometers southwest. Taiwan is located directly to the north. The Moluccas and Sulawesi are located to the south-southwest and Palauis located to the east of the islands.
