INFORMATION? TECHNOLOGY? MEDIA -comes from the word “medium” which is defined as channel, means, or method - As an avenue or method, we use media to communication information or messages. - -simply referred to as communication tools INFORMATION refers to processed data and/or knowledge derived from investigation, study, experience, instruction, signals, or symbols TECHNOLOGY refers to the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, that aims to improve human life or to change and manipulate the human environment INFORMATION WHAT DO WE COMMUNICATE? MEDIA HOW DO WE COMMUNICATE? TECHNOLOGY WHAT CAN WE USE TO COMMUNICATE BETTER? HOW DOES MEDIA , INFORMATION, AND TECHNOLOGY AFFECT COMMUNICATION? LITERACY the ability to identify, understand , interpret, create, communicate, and compute using printed and written materials associated with varying contexts. LITERACY involves a continuum of learning in enabling individuals to achieve their goals, to develop their knowledge and potential and to participate fully in the community and wider society (UNESCO, 2004; 2017) MEDIA LITERACY ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and communicate information in a variety of forms, including print and non-print message; ability to synthesize and produce mediated messages. INFORMATION LITERACY ability to recognize when information is needed and to locate , evaluate, effectively use , and communicate information in its various formats. TECHNOLOGY LITERACY an ability to effectively use digital technologies, tools, and platforms to enhance work efficiently and personal productivity ACCORDING TO ARMACOST LIBRARY MIL consists of the knowledge, the attitudes, and the sum of the skills needed to know when and what information is needed; where and how to obtain that information; how to evaluate it critically and organize it once it is found; and how to use it in an ethical way AS DEFINED BY UNESCO: MIL is a set of competencies that empowers citizens to access, retrieve, understand, evaluate, and use, create, as well as share information and media content in all formats, using various tools, in critical, ethical, and effective way, in order to participate and engage in personal, professional, and societal activities.
