It is a psychological stress before, during, or after the test. can be negative if a student keeps thinking about failing. sometimes it is positive as it encourages the students to do their best and succeed. How to manage stress Prepare well be well prepared for the exam and know that you are well prepared. With good preparation and good concentration, you should do well. Once you know that you can do well on that exam, you won’t be so anxious. Monitor your learning. 1. Major reviews المذاكرة االساسي usually most helpful when conducted a week before the finals or other critical exams. They help you integrate concepts and deepen your understanding of the material presented. Throughout the term, there are longer review periods—2 to 5 hours, with sufficient breaks. 2. Final Review المذاكرة النهائي Create flash cards. Take a practice test Get copies of old exams. Use relaxation strategies. اثناء االختبار During an exam, use relaxation exercises to help reduce your anxiety level. Avoid negative thoughts. Answer the questions you know first. doesn’t last forever; for most students, the symptoms subside after about fifteen or twenty minutes. Don’t let test anxiety become an excuse. themselves when things aren’t going well. They blame their test failure on their anxiety “FRS” WORK OF SECTION 2 2024102322 MEMORY MEMORY ability to encode, store, and retrieve ( remember) information memory process الترتيب مهم 1. Encoding: interpreting information in a meaningful way. 2. Storage: working on information, so that it can be easily remembered. 3. Retrieval: getting information out of the brain. Types of memory Sensory memory holds information received from the senses for a very brief period Sensory memory Short- term memory Long-term memory Short- term memory 1. immediate memory: everything you are thinking of at the current moment. It is very limited. It takes less than one minute to process. 2. Working memory: named “ working” because you really have to “work” on the material to make it meaningful, memorable, and easy to retrieve. must first move the material into the working memory to get it into your long-term memory Long-term memory working memory, it can be moved into long-term memory. storing unlimited amounts of information over a long period of time. Memory Problems: Never really learned it Just reading over information doesn’t guarantee that you will get information into long-term memory. Not understanding the information Even if you practice information seven or eight times, you can’t learn it if you don’t really understand it. Cramming Cramming is studying a lot of things in a short period of time. When you do so, you probably won’t have time to store it in an organized way. Stored with too few cues To access a memory, you need to know how to find it. Many times you need a key term, a cue, a label, or a link to the information, to unlock the memory. Interference Studying closely related information often leads to interference. Test Anxiety When you’re anxious, it’s more difficult to recall cues and retrieve important information because anxiety affects your ability to focus and concentrate. “FRS” WORK OF SECTION 2 2024102322 MEMORY Why you need memory strategies? They make it easy for students to remember course materials and use them when needed. They help students connect new information with other more familiar information. They help students achieve academic success and get high scores. Strategies Chunking It is easier to memorize information when you break it up into small parts this is called Chunking Understanding try to understand it. A good way to do this is by making a connection between what you are learning and what you already know. Graphic Organizer Using such graphics will help you organize the information which will make it easier for you to understand and recall or memorize. Association associate, or "connect," each word or event with a person, place, thing, feeling, or situation. Repetition Unfortunately, you can’t learn information by repeating it only one time. There is so much information to learn for college exams and so much complex material you need a great deal of repetition to learn it all. Tips to improve your memory Review regularly. Review your text and lecture information on a daily or weekly basis to keep the information fresh in your memory. Organize the information logically. The more logically you organize the information that you need to remember, the easier it will be to learn it and retrieve it from memory. Organize the information in your study sheets. The more organized the information is when you put it into long-term memory, the more easily you’ll be able to find it when you’re taking an exam. Use your own expertise to aid memory. When information is meaningful, it’s easier to remember. Think of how what you’re learning connects with your own life. Monitor your memory. Many students are frustrated when they can’t remember information during an exam. If this has happened to you, you may not have learned the information “FRS” WORK OF SECTION 2 2024102322
