Essentially, it's how products get from the producer to the consumer, often with the help of *Marketing Intermediaries*. What is Marketing Intermediaries? specific entities that facilitate this distribution process. Think of them as the middlemen in getting products to you. They include wholesalers, retailers, distributors, agents, and brokers. These intermediaries help in various functions like promoting products, storing inventory, and providing customer service. WHAT IS CHANNEL OF DISTRIBUTION? - refers to the pathway through which products or services flow from the producer to the consumer. This includes all the steps and entities involved in getting a product from the manufacturer to the end user. Channels can be direct (selling directly to consumers) or indirect (involving intermediaries). -Channel of distribution is classified according to distribution intensity INTENSIVE SELECTIVE EXCLUSIVE -NEEDS MANY -NEEDS FEW -ONLY ONE INTERMEDIARIES INTERMEDIARIES INTERMEDIARIES INTENSIVE EXAMPLES; COCA COLA products are widely available in grocery stores, convenience stores, restaurants, and vending machines, ensuring maximum accessibility for consumers. SELECTIVE EXAMPLE; Samsung selectively distributes its premium electronics through authorized retailers and specialty electronics stores, balancing widespread availability with a focus on quality service. EXCLUSIVE EXAMPLE; Tiffany & Co. Tiffany jewelry is sold only through its own branded stores and a few select high-end retailers. This exclusivity enhances the brand’s luxury appeal and ensures a controlled buying experience. MARKETING INTERMEDIARIES Manufacturers - makers of the product Distributorship - selected by manufacturers to buy goods for resale c Wholesaling - selling of products for business use Retailers - individuals engaged in retailing RETAILERS- They act as the final link in the supply chain, purchasing products from wholesalers or manufacturers and then selling them in smaller quantities to the end customers. TYPES OF RETAILING; Sari - Sari Stores - small retail shops found in the neighborhood Supermarkets -there's high efficiency in providing the product. c Drugstores - composed of pharmacies found in mails or stand alone in convenient location Department Stores - large stores which offer a variety of products that are organized into departments. Convenience Stores - stores that carry a limited number of goods Hypermarkets - a huge superstores that are bigger and more spacious than supermarkets.
