Chemistry, Concept Review Sheet, Chapters 4 and 5 You may use your period tables on this test Chapter 4 Recall how Mendeleev developed the Period Table (how was his organized?). Define Periodicity, and identify periodicity patterns in a graph of elemental properties. Identify and differentiate the characteristics of a metal, non-metal, and metalloid. Recall the common names for all groups/blocks on the Periodic Table. Write the electron configurations for elements. Recall that metals will give up electrons to achieve a stable octet Recall that nonmetals will gain electrons to achieve a stable octet. Recall the periodicity trends for the properties we studied in Chapter 4 (atomic radius, ionic radius, reactivity, electronegativity, ionization energy, etc). Define all of the properties above. Explain the three points from the catechism influencing the periodicity of many properties on the Periodic Table. Identify the number of valence electrons in an element. Draw Lewis Dot Diagrams (of elements and simple compounds). Recall how you determined the lass of Ca used in the Valence Electron Lab. Chapter 5 Identify properties of covalent compounds. Identify properties of ionic compounds. Identify the oxidation number of an element. Create a balanced (neutral) ionic compound. Name ionic compounds (don’t forget the Roman numerals for transition metals!!). Things from prior chapters Mass → Mols → Molecules or Molecules → Moles → Mass Density Calculations. Electron Configurations. Unit Conversions.
