1ACT Tips and Strategies Cheat Sheet 1. KLA Conciseness Strategy- choose the shortest answer if there is a **difference of 3 or more words** in the answer choices! 2. KLA keyword questions- ?'s begin similar to "which choice most clearly emphasizes/indicates/etc...." look for the CLUE WORD in the question! Only one answer will fit! 3. Verb chart- How many answer choices end in 's'? If 3, pick the other! If 1, pick that one! Example: answer choices are: is, are, were, have (is=answer) ------------------------------- ------------------------------- **Singular Subject** **Plural Subject** Is are was were has have Does do Any "action" verb ending in S Any "action" verb ending in S ------------------------------- ------------------------------- 4. CSE punctuation rules reference chart ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------------------------------- **Same punctuation and rule** **Where do I need a sentence?** (Rule 1) Period = Semicolon = Comma+Fanboy (for,and,nor,but,or,yet,so) Complete Sentence before **[AND]** after (Rule 2) Colon = Dash Complete Sentence **[BEFORE]** (Rule 3) A single comma Complete sentence before **[OR]** after (Rule 4) Two commas = Two Dashes Complete sentence **[without]** words between the - - or , , ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Pick an answer for the day! Choose **ONE** letter choice to put for any answer you don't know! Hint: Don't choose D or J as your letter 6. ALWAYS read the entire passage! You cannot answer the hardest questions (at the end of the passages) without reading! 7. Don't forget to check NO CHANGE. You **MUST** check what it has underlined in the passage. Do not just skip that answer choice. A lot of times it is correct!
