## Vertical Ventilation - Before deciding to allow the HVAC system to be used, the IC must know the following: - The exact location of the fire - The floor layout and the location of the stairs - The location of HVAC supply and, more importantly, return openings - The locations of firefighters and civilians - The fire conditions - Whether using the system will endanger firefighters or civilians by drawing fire towards them - Only after they have sufficient information regarding these matters can the IC order an HVAC or smoke-control system to be used.
