Switch Types

• Momentary action switches are used to make momentary contact for a brief period of time or as long as the button is pressed.
• Latched action switches, on the other hand, remain in their set state until reset.

Switch Operation

• Electronic switches are activated to control a circuit when an input signal or action turns the switch on or off.
• The switch armature is connected into a specific circuit or load, determined by the switch's configuration and purpose.

Basic Switches

• A Single Pole Single Throw (SPST) switch has one input contact and one output contact, allowing it to either make (ON) or break (OFF) the load.

Switch Functions

• The main function of a switch in a circuit is to connect or disconnect the circuit, allowing or blocking the flow of electrical current.

Specialized Switches

• A Double Pole Double Throw (DPDT) switch has three terminals and consists of two ON positions and one OFF position, allowing it to switch between two separate circuits.
• A Double Pole Single Throw (DPST) switch has two poles and two throws.
• A limit switch is used to detect the physical presence or absence of an object, and is often used in safety and control applications.

Micro Switches

• A Micro Switch is a type of switch that is manually actuated by a mechanical handle, lever, or rocking mechanism.
• Micro Switches are characterized by their small size and low operating force.

Push Button Switches

• A Normally Open Push Button (PBNO) switch is characterized by its normally open state, which closes the circuit when pressed.

Relays

• A relay typically performs a switching operation, connecting or disconnecting a circuit in response to an input signal.
