Council Responsibilities

Ensure Pharmacy courses in Ghana provide necessary knowledge and skills for effective practice.
Collaborate with educational institutions to determine course instruction and practical training for Pharmacy students.
Establish and prescribe standards for professional conduct.
Maintain discipline among pharmacists through the exercise of disciplinary powers.
Uphold professional standards through disciplinary enforcement.
Keep a comprehensive register of qualified and practicing pharmacists.
Regulate the distribution of Pharmacies across the country.

Composition of the Council

Comprised of members appointed by the President, following consultations with the council of state.
Chairperson must be a registered pharmacist with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
One representative from the Ministry of Health, at least at the Director level.
One representative from an accredited tertiary training institution for pharmacists, nominated by the Minister.
One registered pharmacist elected by fellow registered pharmacists.
Three additional members who are not health professionals, including at least one woman, nominated by the Minister.
Representative from the Attorney General's office, not below the Principal State Attorney level.
The registrar of the council is also a member.

Terms of Office

Members serve for a duration of three years and are eligible for reappointment; ex-officio members are exceptions to this rule.
Appointment of council members follows Article 70 of the constitution.
