The Bamboo Instruments of the Panay Bukidnon

Includes Tikumbo, Suganggang, Litgit, Tulali, Subing

Tikumbo: Percussion and chordophone made of kawayan (bamboo) played by tapping the bamboo lid.

Suganggang: Buzzard struck on the palm of a hand, made of bulo (relative smaller bamboo). The hole on one end, used to vary tones.

Litgit: Two-stringed bowed instrument crafted from bulo and Abaca hemp strings. Used for melodic and rhythmic patterns

Tulali: Bamboo flute, made of Bagakay (smallest type of bamboo) Tuned with a pentatonic scale played on four holes.

Subing: Javans harp. The bamboo used for this instrument should be well-selected, high up on the plant, and have the liveliest sway by the wind to produce ideal sounds. The subing is an aerophone, chordophone, and idiophone.
Musical Instruments of Indonesia

Saron: Set of seven bronze bars on a resonating frame (rancak). Played by a seated performer on the floor and struck with a mallet.

Bonang: Collection of small gongs placed horizontally on a wooden frame (rancak).

The notes are tuned to specific pitches in the appropriate scale (related to pelog and slendro). Some bonangs have a flattened head (lower pitch), others have arced heads (higher pitch).

Cradles Gongs: Two-row gongs.

Kempul: A type of hanging gong. Frequently hanging on a single rack at the back of the Gamelan.

Gambang: Like the saron, but crafted from wood, with 17-21 keys. The keys are easily removed and are kept in place by a nail.

Kendang: Primary drum in Javanese and Balinese gamelan ensembles and other Southeast Asian ensembles such as Malaysia, Brunei, and Southern Philippines. Usually placed horizontally on stands and hit with the hands on either side while the performer is seated on the floor.
