Male Reproductive System Structure
- Testes (x2): Produce sperm and testosterone.
- Epididymus (x2): Transports sperm. Carries both semen and urine.
- Vas Deferens (x1): Carries sperm from epididymis to urethra.
- Urethra (x1): Carries sperm and urine.
- Scrotum (x2): Sac that holds the testes, allowing them to expand and contract for temperature regulation. Produces a liquid to nourish sperm.
- Seminal Vesicle (x1): Nourishes the sperm (part of semen).
- Prostate Gland (x1): Produces part of semen that nourishes sperm.
- Penis (x1): Stores urine from kidneys,
- Urinary Bladder (x1): Stores urine.
Male Reproductive System Function
- Testes (x2): Produce sperm and testosterone, the male hormone.
- Epididymus (x2): Lies next to the testicles; stores sperm and shuttles it to the vas deferens.
- Vas Deferens (x1): Transports sperm to the urethra.
- Urethra (x1): Transports both sperm and urine.
- Scrotum (x2): Holds the testicles and regulates their temperature.
- Seminal Vesicle (x1): Produces a fluid that nourishes sperm.
- Prostate Gland (x1): Creates part of semen, which nourishes sperm.
- Penis (x1): Delivers sperm to the female reproductive tract.
Additional Notes
- Testes: They are also part of the endocrine system.
- Testosterone: A major hormone during puberty that causes changes in boys, such as deeper voices, bigger muscles, and body and facial hair. It also helps produce sperm. It is made in the testes.
- Genitals: Include the testes, vas deferens, accessory glands like the seminal vesicle and prostate gland, and the penis. The male reproductive organs are located both inside and outside the pelvis.
