Membrano-Proliferative GN
- Features EXCEPT basement membrane spikes
- Most frequent outcome of Acute Diffuse Glomerulonephritis is complete recovery
Henoch-Schoenlein Syndrome
- Features include crescent formation, IgA deposition
- Excludes diffuse thickening of basement membrane
Acute Diffuse Tubular Necrosis
- Not caused by post-partum hemorrhage
- Excludes extensive burns, shock, sepsis, and transfusion with Hepatitis B
Surgically Treatable Hypertension
- Excludes IgA nephritis, diabetes mellitus, SLE nephritis, and Goodpasture syndrome
- May be caused by fibromuscular dysplasia of the renal artery
Ampicillin Complications
- Interstitial nephritis is a possible complication
- Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis, IgA nephropathy, and acute tubular necrosis are excluded
Nephrotic Syndrome Causes
- Excludes malaria
- Causes include diabetes, SLE, viral hepatitis, and post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis
Primary Biliary Cirrhosis
- Common in females, associated with pruritis, jaundice developing early, and increased alkaline phosphatase
- Antimitochondrial antibodies are associated
Malignant Thyroid Tumor
- Most frequent in young patients is Papillary Carcinoma
Diabetic Microangiopathy
- Excludes Myocardial Infarction
- Complications include retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy
Hypocalcemia Causes
- Excludes granulomatous diseases, hypoparathyroidism, renal failure, and vitamin D deficiency.
Lipiduria Causes
- Ascending pyelonephritis, nephritic syndrome, and renal infarction are excluded
Renal Mass
- A 3-year-old child with a 10 cm right renal mass is likely to have Wilm's tumor.
Hyperplastic Arteriosclerosis and Fibrinoid Necrosis
- Associated with malignant hypertension and diabetes type II
Renal Changes and Corticosteroid Therapy
- Patchy tubular necrosis is unlikely to improve
- Glomerular crescents, fusion of podocyte foot processes, hyperplastic arteriosclerosis are potential targets of improvement.
Rapidly Progressive Glomerulonephritis (RPGN)
- Diagnostic feature includes crescent formation.
Malignant Hypertension
- Features include hyperplastic arteriosclerosis and crescent formation.
- Fibrinoid necrosis is also a feature.
Diffuse Post-Streptococcal Glomerulonephritis
- Features include hypertension, periorbital edema, granular casts in urine, and exclusion of fusion of podocyte foot processes.
- Excludes immune complex deposition.
- Features include hypertension and periorbital edema
Low Complement, Hypercellular Glomeruli, Sub-epithelial Deposits
- Characteristically seen in post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (post-streptococcal GN).
- Also applies to interstitial nephritis (minimal change disease)
Mesangial Deposits of IgA
- Characteristic of IgA Nephropathy
Nodular Glomerulosclerosis
- It represents a pattern of diabetic glomerular change, and is a manifestation of malignant hypertension
- Exclusion of advanced pyelonephritis, thin membrane disease, crescent glomerulonephritis, and post-streptococcal GN.
Type III Rapidly Progressive Glomerulonephritis (RBGN)
- Associated with C-ANCA
- Excludes type I RBGN, type II RBGN, IgA Nephropathy, Post-Streptococcal GN
