Sampling Methods

The AP Statistics sample survey utilized a variety of sampling methods to ensure a diverse representation of participants. The sample was drawn from AP Statistics exam-takers during the years 1997 to 2003, with a response rate of approximately 19% after adjusting for delivery failures and refusals. The final sample consisted of 2,143 examinees out of the nearly 230,000 potential subjects.

Random Sampling

Random sampling was employed as a foundational principle in the construction of the sample. Every member of the target population had an equal opportunity to be selected into the sample, ensuring a balanced representation across various demographic characteristics, including gender, exam score, and geographical location.

Stratified Sampling
