    Study Notes

Cabin Crew Operations Manual - Normal Procedures

    • Normal procedures are established by Smartwings for daily operations
    • This chapter details cabin crew tasks during flight phases: ground, pre-flight, pushback/taxi, takeoff, climb, cruise, descent/approach, landing, post-landing/post-flight
    • Cabin crew is responsible for reporting for duty, checking their schedule and documents, and following company procedures.

    Reporting for Duty

    • Cabin crew must know their reporting times and duty periods according to the crew schedule.
    • Crew members must verify information in ECREW and EFA before each flight or duty.
    • Crew members need to have the following documents for duty:
      • CC licence/aircraft type/variant qualification
      • Medical certificate (EU regulation 1178/2011)
      • Valid passport and ID card
      • Crew expiry dates report
      • International vaccination certificate (if required by operator)
    • Each crew member is responsible for their documents' validity and adequate time for issuing, renewal or prolongation.
    • Obligatory/recommended working aids include: wristwatch, reflective vest, SCC folder, sewing kit, apron, torch, and updated Announcement Book.

    CC Briefing

    • Briefings are required before each flight or crew change.
    • Briefings are conducted in English and/or the native language of crew members.
    • Briefings include checking competence, motivation for performance and compliance with company standards, and activating teamwork.
    • Safety briefings will also include:
      • Introduction to briefing of documents and uniform
      • Review of normal procedure SOPs (e.g. SCC distributes duty/working positions, flight information, passenger details, A/C details)
      • Review of emergency procedure SOPs (e.g. language commands agreement with FC for suspicious activities in cabin, security procedures, First Aid and Medical emergency, SCC/FC/CC incapacitation, unruly behaviour, unlawful interference, emergency descent, fire alarm, smoke, etc.)
      • Review, and instructions for, Safety and emergency equipment.

    Pre-Flight Check

    • During pre-flight, the CC is responsible for safety and emergency equipment checks. Different procedures/checklists apply to different aircraft types (Boeing 737, Airbus A220, A320).
    • The CC must ensure all emergency equipment is present and accurate. Any discrepancies or irregularities need to be reported to CMD and recorded in the ATL (Aircraft Technical Log) immediately.

    In-Flight Information

    • The chapter provides samples of in-flight information, including flight details (dates, times, airports).

    Storrage of Trolleys

    • Cabin crew is responsible for checking the stowage of trolleys throughout flight.
    • If a trolley becomes unserviceable or if a safety discrepancy occurs, the trolley should remain stowed, be labelled "INOOPERATIVE", and not be used.
    • Trolleys should never be unattended and carefully handled during movement of the trolley through aisle areas, or when parked in their designated areas.
    • CC members are responsible for performing A/C security checks.
    • Pre/Post flight checks: A/C security checks should occur after all ground personnel have left.
    • A checklist is provided for different areas like seating/cabin areas, overhead compartments, galley areas, storage bins, lavatories etc.
    • If any discrepancies are found they should be reported to CMD immediately.

    Sealing of Aircraft

    • TVS or contracted maintenance staff and pilots perform sealing of aircraft doors.
    • Special seals are used in sealing.
    • All doors must be closed and locked prior to sealing.

    Announcements to Passengers

    • The purpose is to make announcements related to standards and emergency situations
    • announcements made using PA system or megaphones if necessary (Pre-recorded Announcement system (PRAM)).
    • All announcements should follow guidelines from the Announcement book.
    • There is a specific procedure for embarkation and distribution of passengers by different personnel on the different aircraft types.
    • During the passenger process, crew should monitor passengers behavior/response.

    Passenger Safety Briefing

    • Proper briefing for passengers sitting on the overwing exit is required, including directions on opening the exit in emergency
    • The briefing must cover safety procedures and instructions relating to emergency exits. Passengers are given instructions on operation of emergency equipment and exits.

    Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs)

    • Certain electronics are not permitted on the flight.
    • Some PEDs are approved for use during flight phases; however their use, if not a medical necessity shall have to be disabled
    • Other PEDs are only permitted in 'flight mode'.
    • The guidelines for their use, and exceptions to use, are provided.

    Cabin Checks during Taxi/Take-Off/Landing Phases

    • Each aircraft type has specific procedures for checking cabins and lavatories for each phase (e.g. taxi).
    • A standard check occurs in each phase, checking for all passengers, baggage, safety equipment, and cabin doors.

    Use of Crew/Cabin Seats

    • Crew/cabin seats are to be for crew use, for safety; and for training activities
    • During non safety-related activities, crew are seated with safety belts fastened.

    Cruising Phase / Additional procedures

    • CC activities during the cruising phase are only safety-related.
    • CC must check cabin for fire and smoke conditions, monitor passenger behaviors.
    • Additional announcements and procedures are outlined for the cruising phase.

    During Descent/Before Landing

    • Procedures for cabin checks during descent and before landing are outlined, including specific instructions for different aircraft types.

    After Landing/Disarming

    • Procedures for cabin checks after landing/disarming are outlined, including specific instructions for different aircraft types.

    Passenger Disembarkation

    • A designated CC member is assigned to each disembarkation door.
    • Specific procedures are outlined for ensuring passenger safety after landing (e.g. cabin checks, safety equipment, staff presence, exits, etc.)

    De-briefing

    • After flight, there is a de-briefing of events, and to address issues in cabin procedures.
