    Life Raft

    • Not required to be secured to the OHB with a set of two belts

    Pre-flight Check for A321NEO

    • Cabin divided into 5 zones for conducting the emergency equipment pre-flight check
    • Each Flight Attendant is responsible for one zone
    • Areas: Not specified, but each FA is responsible for one zone

    AED Instructions

    • To deliver a shock: apply pads, voice prompt, plug pads into AED, and follow prompts.
    • If shock is advised, press the orange button to deliver the shock.
    • AED has a steady tone and an orange flashing button.

    Post-Use Procedure

    • Leave the AED Data Card installed.
    • Return AED to stowage location.
    • Submit a Cabin Condition Report to the Captain.
    • Submit an Incident Report.
    • The "A" Flight Attendant takes the chip to the Base Supervisor/Operations Coordinator, who will FedEx the data chip.

    AED Features

    • Can only be used on a child/infant 8 years or younger (55 lbs or less) if the Child/Infant key is with the unit.
    • Main AED unit has 2 sets of Smartpads with one installed.
    • No data chip or LED screen.

    "i" Button

    • Pressing the "i" button provides CPR coaching.
    • During the first 30 seconds of care, the button will flash.
    • If pressed when flashing, the user receives troubleshooting guidance.

    Importance of Time

    • Survival rate is reduced by 10% for each minute defibrillation is delayed.
    • Time to defibrillation is critical for survival.

    AED Function

    • AEDs use an internal computer to assess a patient's heart rhythm.
    • AEDs identify the need to administer an electrical shock to the heart.
    • Defibrillation is the delivery of electrical current to the heart muscle through pads or electrodes.

    Criteria for AED Use

    • Unconsciousness
    • No detectable breathing
    • No signs of life

    Special Considerations

    • Implanted pacemakers or defibrillators: follow AED instructions, avoid placing pads directly over implanted devices.
    • Wet/metal surfaces: AEDs can be used on wet surfaces (fresh/salt water) and dry metal surfaces.
    • Depth: 1.5-2 inches

    CPR

    • Infant: two-finger compressions, depth: ½ to 1 inch
    • Child: one-handed compressions, depth: 1-1.5 inches
    • CPR until D.A.R.N: complete 5 CPR cycles (about 2 minutes), reassess or stop for D.A.R.N.

    D.A.R.N

    • D - Danger
    • A - AED Arrives
    • R - Return to Signs of Life
    • N - New Qualified person

    Staying Alive

    • A, B, C Review: head tilt, chin lift, look, listen and feel for breaths, quick scan for life, and deliver 2 breaths and 30 compressions.

    Child/Infant Rescue Breathing

    • Performed when a child has lost the ability to breathe independently and has a pulse.
    • Check: under 12?, unconscious?, not breathing?, has a pulse? RESCUE BREATHING!

    • Inoperative PA System: FAM 40.20
    • Inoperative Interphone System: FAM 40.25

    Crew Communication

    • Rejected Takeoff: a takeoff that is discontinued prior to reaching takeoff speed, possible causes include engine trouble or runway traffic
    • Example: Continental Airline Flight #603, March 1, 1978

    Rejected Takeoff Procedure

    • Flight Deck command: “Remain Seated! Remain Seated! Remain Seated!”
    • Flight Attendant procedure: command customers to “Remain Seated! Remain Seated!” while assessing conditions at primary exit and surrounding area
    • If imminent danger exists, follow EVACUATION procedures

    Emergency Evacuation and Rejected Takeoff

    • Unwarranted Emergency Evacuation: Jetway Malfunction – 2R Alternate (A320) and 4R Alternate (A321), Air Maroc – Fire at gate

    Aircraft Odors and Reporting

    • Flight Attendants should have a good overview of odor events and likely causes
    • Know what is normal: where and when odors may be likely to be encountered
    • Reportable odors are more serious and require timely reporting
    • Use of human senses to detect odors: sense of smell, hearing, vision, and touch

    Phases of Flight

    • At the Gate: aircraft odors can originate from various sources
    • De-Icing the Aircraft: taxi out
    • Takeoff, Climb, and Cruise: aircraft odors can occur during these phases
    • Top of Descent: aircraft odors can occur during this phase
    • Landing and Taxi In: aircraft odors can occur during these phases

    Abnormal Conditions

    • If experiencing an event affecting air quality, contact the Flight Deck and be specific in communications
    • Follow Flight Deck’s instructions and procedures for emergencies

    Post Flight Requirements

    • If a Flight Attendant desires medical attention:
      • Inform the Captain as soon as possible
      • Required to be taken to the nearest emergency room for diagnosis and treatment
      • Must contact his/her supervisor upon landing
      • Must complete the Cabin Odor Report and the Incident Report within 24 hours
