10.2 VR terminology vestibuli-ocular reflex (VoR) :reflex allows pt to maintain visual stability during rapid head mvmnts (cervical rot) maintaining focus on object when shaking your head motion has to be around 85-120 degrees per second (has to be fast) reflex: 14 milliseconds heavily reliant on this to avoid motion sickness, vertigo and imbalance VOR allows eye mvmnt in the opposite direction of head mvmnt during rot, so that you can still keep your eyes on that target if your head is moving VOR gain ratio of eye mvmnt to head mvmnt - horziontal rot healthy individual value is 1 : allows for gaze fixation or equal eye mvmnt to counter head rot in opposite direction impaired pt: reflex loses gain -eyes not able to move as quickly as head is turning loss of gain=error signal or retinal slip = vertigo error detected by intact cerebellum & allows brain to correct error or retinal slip to increase gain
