**VALUES EDUCATION:** - A science who essence is founded on reason, experience, reflection, intuition, meditation, imagination and speculations. - process by which values are formed in the learner under the guidance of the teacher - study of the development of essential values **VALUES:** A person's principles or standards of behavior. **VALUE:** A thing has a value when it's perceived as good and desirable. **GOALS OF VAL-E**D: To provide and promote values education at all levels of the educational system for the development of the human person **OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM:** - Develop Filipinos who are self-actualized, integrally developed human beings imbued with sense of human dignity TCC CORE VALUES --------------- - CHARACTER: The desire to transform students into value driven individuals - ALTRUISM: The willingness to give of one's self for the welfare of the entire society - RESPONSIBILITY: The readiness to respond diligently with accountability - EXCELLENCE: The passion to sharpen competent and well-grounded professionals - STEWARDSHIP: govern and uphold the principles of the moral standards of the students in particular and the academic institution in general **LEGAL BASES OF VALUES EDUCATION** - After the Revolution in EDSA in February 1986, the DECS made values education a primary thrust. - Article XIV, Sec. 3 clearly mandates all educational institutions to a. \"inculcate patriotism and nationalism, foster love of humanity, b. respect for human rights, appreciate of the role of national heroes in the historical development of the country, c. teach the rights and duties of citizenship, d. strengthen ethical and spiritual values, e. develop moral character and creative thinking, f. broaden scientific and technological knowledge g. promote vocational efficiency. **BASED ON THE MANDATE OF THE 1987 CONSTITUTION:** The VAL-ED Program Framework has been developed to serve as a guideline for the implementation of VAL-ED PROGRAMS in the 3 levels of education **4 PILLARS OF MORAL RECOVERY PROGRAM (**September 30, 1992, President Fidel V. Our eagerness however, fades away just as quickly as the fire is extinguished, leaving our work either half-baked or unfinished. 3. **MAÑANA HABIT:** Known as \"tomorrow\" in English, the habit encourages procrastination, an \"ability\" we Filipinos have since turned into an art form. 4. **FILIPINO TIME:** we tend not to observe punctuality at all. 5. **COLONIAL MENTALITY:** a preference for all things foreign over our own 6. **BAHALA NA ATTITUDE:** the belief of leaving everything to the hands of fate #### GOALS AND STRATEGIES FOR CHANGES 1. Obedience and Punishment orientation (How can I avoid punishment?) 2. Individualism and Purpose (What\'s in it for me?) 3. Interpersonal Norms (The good boy/ good girl attitude) 4. Authority and Social-order maintaining orientation (Law and order morality) 5. Community right us individual rights 6. Universal ethical principles (Principle of Conscience) **SOCIOCULTURAL THEORY (**LEV VYGOTSKY**):** Insisted that children\'s mind are shaped by the particular social and historical context in which they live and by their interactions with adults. **HIERARCHY OF NEEDS (**ABRAHAM MASLOW**):** people are motivated to fulfill basic needs before moving on to other, more advanced needs. undefined ##### STRATEGIES FOR SELF-DEVELOPMENT 1. **ROLE-MODELING:** A process where individuals learn and emulate behaviors by observing and imitating the actions of others they influences 2. **AFFIRMATIONS:** Are positive statements or phrases that are used to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging or negative thoughts 3. **SELF-ASSESSMENT:** refers to the process of evaluating and reflecting on one\'s own skills 4. **INTROSPECTION:** of examining and reflecting on one\'s own thoughts, feelings, and mental processes 5. **VISUALIZATION:** a powerful strategy for self-development that involves creating detailed mental images of desired outcomes or goals
