You know that using these answers would be dishonest, but you also don’t want to upset your friend or risk hurting your friendship. You’re left with a choice: either take the answers and risk compromising your integrity or say no and explain why it’s important to stay honest. It is derived from three Latin words- cum alia scientia, which means the application of knowledge to a specific individual WHAT IS CONSCIENCE? According to the Dictionary.com, conscience “is the inner sense of what is right or wrong in one’s conduct or motives, impelling one toward right action. It is our sense of moral obligation or reasoned judgment which tells us an act is good or evil. It is not so much a rule of right conduct, but approval of right conduct. TYPES OF CONSCIENCE Antecedent or Consequent Antecedent Conscience is a conscience that makes a judgment of an action before a particular action is performed. Consequent Conscience evaluates an act already committed or omitted. TYPES OF CONSCIENCE Certain or Doubtful Conscience Certain Conscience passes judgment without the fear of error. Doubtful Conscience is the uncertainty about the morality of an act. TYPES OF CONSCIENCE Right or Erroneous Conscience Right Conscience presents good as good and evil as evil. Erroneous Conscience is a mistaken judgment because it judges something good to be evil, and something evil to be good. How can we form our conscience? To form our Conscience, we need to allow Christ to lead and the Holy Spirit to guide us. It is Christ alone, by his life and teachings that come to us through the Bible and the Church.
