It is the ability of one’s consciousness to look inward thus discovering the presence of a self. The deeper awareness which is driven by RATIONALITY or HUMAN THOUGHT. It is your I-amness (Wilber, 2006). The self enables a person to experience an inner world of dreams, thoughts, imagination, fantasy (Abella, 2016). Thus, the self represents man’s interiority EXAMPLE SCENARIO: Imagine you're feeling upset after an argument with a friend. You take a moment to think about why you're upset, maybe you realize it's because you felt ignored. By recognizing your feelings and understanding why you feel that way, you're showing self-awareness. Refers to the capability of persons to make choices and decisions based on their own preferences, monitor and regulate their actions, and be goal-oriented and self-directed. This makes self-determination possible, because it enables us to do actions whenever we want (this means this is your own preference because you want it) to. Brill was playing on his computer and suddenly he got mad because he got disconnected because of a blackout, and he shouted because of anger. His mother instantly goes into his room to check him, and asks him why he shouts, what do you think will be his response? Because I was mad, Mommy. I was afraid because there might be a monster since there’s a blackout. It was my brother. The result of his response is called CONSEQUENCE: it is the result or effect of an action or condition. The basis of Brill’s free will will be his MORALITY, what if he lied? What if he told the truth? What will Happen? Emily had been deeply hurt by a close friend's betrayal years ago, leaving her wary and distrustful. When she started a new job with kind, supportive colleagues, her past trauma made her keep them at arm's length. She avoided forming connections, missing out on collaboration opportunities. Over time, her isolation caused her coworkers to view her as unapproachable, ultimately impeding her professional growth. Therefore, we can say that: I am a person, My actions are my own and are made freely. I know that I am the cause of my actions. I know that my actions have consequences. The capability to reach out and interact with others and the world. We can say that “No Man is an Island” because man has a natural tendency to seek fellow human beings. Each one of us is linked together to become a functioning and surviving society. Everyone disappears, and now you are an island, do you think you can survive for that long? Of course no you will die because no one will maintain food, electricity, water and many more. It would be way more harder. We exist because we interact with each other. Or the innate right to be valued and respected - Consider all humans as having an inherent worth or value. However, do not equate value or worth with any quantifiable measure such as a price. Each person is worth the same as another person in the sense that every person is priceless, unique, unrepeatable, and irreplaceable. You see someone being bullied at school. Instead of ignoring it, you stand up for them because you believe everyone deserves to be treated with respect and kindness. By doing this, you're recognizing and protecting their dignity as a person. The intangible element which enables us to exercise thought, possess awareness, interiority, and the capacity to reach out to the outside world and other persons. Plato vs. Aristotle on the Embodied Spirit: Plato: He saw the soul as separate from and superior to the body. The soul is immortal and preexists and survives the body. The body is seen as a temporary, limiting vessel that can distract the soul from true knowledge and virtue. Aristotle: He viewed the soul and body as inseparable. For Aristotle, the soul is the form of the body, meaning it gives the body its essential nature and functions. The soul and body are intertwined, with the soul being essential for the body's life and operation. The body and soul together constitute a single, integrated entity. Means that we cannot separate the two (body and spirit) and they go hand-in-hand in making us who we are. Whatever affects the body also affects the spirit, and this unique trait of the person enables him or her to experience both the physical world and the spiritual world. Embodiment enables us to do and experience all the things that make us human persons. When you feel happy, you might smile or laugh. The emotion (which comes from your soul) has a direct effect on your body (the smile or laugh). People often link love to the heart, believing it's the center of affection because love makes the heart flutter.Scientists attribute love to biological reactions and hormones, with the hypothalamus playing a role. However, philosophers argue that love extends beyond biology and involves the whole person. Embodiment, therefore, is essential for truly experiencing and expressing love. Being an embodied The human body spirit, the person is also stands as the able to encounter mediator between the world of the material world objects in manner and the spiritual that transcends the world. physical. This is not just a material object to the kid, but it could be something meaningful as a present from a loved one. Human embodiment allows persons to attach certain feelings or ideas not only to people, but also to objects. Holding hands, conveys a powerful message between lovers, as this express their affection towards each other. Human embodiment, physical acts are no longer purely physical acts, because the body conveys something from person’s inner world. It shows that through embodiment a person able to have a very unique relationship with the world. It is the unique relationship that define us as humans. Though the nature of the person as an embodied spirit provides numerous opportunities to explore everything around us and even within us, our human nature still imposes limitations. It is true that the human person enjoys a number of advantages compared to other beings, but there are still a number of things that humans naturally cannot do. exceeding usual limits or surpassing extending or lying beyond the limits of ordinary experience in Kantian Philosophy : being beyond the limits of all possible experience and knowledge a chance that something might exist, happen, or be true the state or fact of being possible something that might be done or might happen something that is possible abilities or qualities that could make someone or something better in the future Our mind is an important tool that allows us to go beyond many of our physical limits. As persons, we are able to exercise our imagination and reflection to go beyond our own thoughts and experiences. We wish to go to that certain country for so long, we cannot travel because we don’t have money, but we can use our minds to imagine the future. Although we have physical limitations, we can transcend them because of our spiritual dimensions. Being physically limited in our abilities does not prevent us from hoping for or aspiring to greater things. The feeling of hunger The feeling of fatigue is a reminds us that the body reminder that our body needs needs food and rest to recover. nourishment. Transcendence also means overcoming oneself or being in control even if the body reminds us of certain tendencies. Although these tendencies are felt, the person can govern them and ensure that they are exercised within the bounds of reason. A person who has no control A person who allows the over his/her eating habit pleasure of dangerous eventually becomes drugs to rule over him unhealthy and develops an becomes a drug addict. eating disorder. The essence of transcendence is to acknowledge our limitations, identify possibilities for development, and change ourselves for the better. It maybe physical or behavioral change such as a new sport/hobby or adopting a healthier lifestyle. You can also take on a mental challenge such as learning a new skill or doing better in your studies. Another aspect of transcendence is opening yourself to new experiences and ideas. Our capacity for transcendence gives us the opportunity to work toward becoming better versions of ourselves.
