Na'at is a powerful way of expressing deep admiration and love for the Prophet’s character, beauty, and noble attributes. The Qur’an itself serves as the first and ultimate Na'at, as it celebrates the Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬as a mercy to all the worlds, a guide, and a perfect example for humanity. Through the Qur’an, Allah praises the unmatched virtues of His Beloved Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬. Following this divine Na'at, we see how the blessed Companions (Sahabah), such as Sayyiduna Ali (‫للا عنه‬ ‫)رضي ه‬, described the Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬in moving detail, capturing his physical beauty and the gentleness of his character. These heartfelt descriptions by the Sahabah are also Na'at, each one an expression of their devotion and awe. After the Sahabah, the Tabi'een (the generation following the Companions) and the Tabi Tabi'een (the next generation) continued this legacy, preserving and sharing their accounts of the Prophet's attributes, which add to the body of Na'at across generations. In his compilation of the Prophet’s characteristics, Imam Tirmidhi has also created a timeless Na'at through Shamā'il Muhammadiyya, as has Imam Bukhari in his Sahih, and likewise, the other scholars of the Siha Sitta (the six authentic books of Hadith) have all contributed to this legacy. Their collections are not only historical records but works of love and praise for the Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬. Centuries later, Imam Ahmad Raza Khan, known as A'la Hazrat, continued this tradition through his Na'at poetry, expressing profound reverence for the Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬in a way that resonates deeply with the hearts of Muslims. Through these works, including Shamā'il Muhammadiyya, we gain a connection to the Prophet’s beauty and character as cherished across generations. In fact, even before the coming of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (‫)ﷺ‬, previous Prophets themselves praised and foretold his arrival. They spoke of his noble qualities, his mercy, and the guidance he would bring to all of humanity. This long-standing tradition of honoring the Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬reflects that praising him is beloved to Allah and has been a practice among the Prophets, Companions, Saints, and scholars alike. It is reported that when Sayyiduna Adam (‫ )عليه السالم‬was created, he saw the words "La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah" written on the Throne (Arsh). He then asked Allah, "O my Lord, I see some words written next to Your Name. Who is Muhammad?" Allah replied, "He is the last of the Prophets from your descendants. If it were not for him, I would not have created you." In‫ه‬other‫ه‬words,‫ه‬the‫ه‬Blessed‫ه‬Face‫ه‬of‫ه‬Rasoolullah‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬ was‫ه‬not‫ه‬completely‫ه‬round,‫ه‬but‫ه‬it‫ه‬had‫ه‬a‫ه‬beautiful‫ه‬roundness‫ه‬i.e.‫ه‬ plumpness.‫ه‬So,‫ه‬His‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬Blessed‫ه‬Face‫ه‬was‫ه‬neither‫ه‬very‫ه‬ long‫ه‬i.e.‫ه‬elongated,‫ه‬nor‫ه‬was‫ه‬it‫ه‬completely‫ه‬round‫ه‬and‫ه‬flat,‫ه‬but‫ه‬it‫ه‬had‫ه‬ a‫ه‬beautiful‫ه‬roundness‫ه‬to‫ه‬it. ُْ َ‫أَبي‬، ْ‫ض ُمش ََرب‬ He‫ه‬was‫ه‬white‫ه‬with‫ه‬a‫ه‬reddish‫ه‬tinge ْ‫ج العَينَي هن‬ َ ‫أَد‬، ُْ ‫ع‬ He‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬Had‫ه‬Huge‫ه‬Beautiful‫ه‬Eyes,‫ه‬With‫ه‬Deep‫ه‬Black‫ه‬ Pupils ُْ ‫أَهد‬، ْ‫َب األَش َف هار‬ with‫ه‬long‫ه‬eyelashes  - White,‫ه‬i.e.‫ه‬fair,‫ه‬going‫ه‬towards‫ه‬redness,‫ه‬i.e.‫ه‬pinkish.‫ه‬In‫ه‬other‫ه‬ words,‫ه‬it‫ه‬was‫ه‬a‫ه‬whiteness‫ه‬and‫ه‬fairness‫ه‬which‫ه‬had‫ه‬the‫ه‬glow‫ه‬of‫ه‬ redness,‫ه‬i.e.‫ه‬a‫ه‬beautiful‫ه‬rosy‫ه‬glow‫ه‬in‫ه‬it. - It‫ه‬must‫ه‬also‫ه‬be‫ه‬noted‫ه‬that‫ه‬the‫ه‬depth‫ه‬of‫ه‬the‫ه‬black‫ه‬pupils‫ه‬will‫ه‬ only‫ه‬shine‫ه‬out‫ه‬completely‫ه‬when‫ه‬the‫ه‬whiteness‫ه‬of‫ه‬the‫ه‬eye‫ه‬is‫ه‬ clear‫ه‬and‫ه‬pure.‫ه‬When‫ه‬the‫ه‬whiteness‫ه‬is‫ه‬not‫ه‬clear‫ه‬and‫ه‬pure,‫ه‬ then‫ه‬even‫ه‬the‫ه‬depth‫ه‬of‫ه‬the‫ه‬black‫ه‬pupils‫ه‬will‫ه‬not‫ه‬be‫ه‬clearly‫ه‬ visible.‫ه‬So‫ه‬His‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬Blessed‫ه‬Eyes‫ه‬were‫ه‬beautifully‫ه‬ big‫ه‬with‫ه‬sparkling‫ه‬black‫ه‬pupils. ْ‫َاش َوال َكتَ هد‬ ْ ‫ َج هلي ُْل ال ُمش ه‬، And‫ه‬the‫ه‬joints‫ه‬of‫ه‬His‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫صلىه ه‬Blessed‫ه‬Bones‫ه‬and‫ه‬the‫ه‬lower‫ه‬ neck‫ه‬area‫ه‬were‫ه‬also‫ه‬very‫ه‬firm‫ه‬and‫ه‬strong.‫ه‬It‫ه‬was‫ه‬not‫ه‬such‫ه‬that‫ه‬the‫ه‬ bones‫ه‬were‫ه‬apparent,‫ه‬but‫ه‬there‫ه‬was‫ه‬some‫ه‬thickness‫ه‬in‫ه‬them. ‫أَج َر ُْد‬ His‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬Blessed‫ه‬Lower‫ه‬Neck‫ه‬area‫ه‬near‫ه‬the‫ه‬shoulders‫ه‬ was‫ه‬not‫ه‬hairy.‫ه‬In‫ه‬other‫ه‬words,‫ه‬there‫ه‬were‫ه‬only‫ه‬very‫ه‬few‫ه‬fine‫ه‬hairs. ، ْ‫ذُو َمس ُربَة‬، On‫ه‬His‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬Blessed‫ه‬Chest,‫ه‬He‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬had‫ه‬a‫ه‬ beautiful‫ه‬straight‫ه‬line‫ه‬of‫ه‬hair,‫ه‬which‫ه‬was‫ه‬a‫ه‬sign‫ه‬of‫ه‬attractiveness.‫ه‬In‫ه‬ other‫ه‬words,‫ه‬it‫ه‬was‫ه‬a‫ه‬sign‫ه‬of‫ه‬masculine‫ه‬beauty  ْ‫ن َوالقَ َد َمي هن‬ ْ‫ن ال َكفَّي ه‬ ُْ ‫شَث‬، Both‫ه‬His‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬Blessed‫ه‬Hands‫ه‬and‫ه‬Feet‫ه‬Were‫ه‬Full‫ه‬of‫ه‬ Flesh 1. TheْSahabiْwithْtheْHandprint:‫ه‬One‫ه‬famous‫ه‬story‫ه‬tells‫ه‬of‫ه‬a‫ه‬ Sahabi‫ه‬who‫ه‬received‫ه‬a‫ه‬special‫ه‬blessing‫ه‬from‫ه‬the‫ه‬Prophet‫ه‬ Muhammad‫ه)ﷺ(ه‬when‫ه‬he‫ه‬placed‫ه‬his‫ه‬hand‫ه‬on‫ه‬his‫ه‬head.‫ه‬ Because‫ه‬of‫ه‬this‫ه‬blessing,‫ه‬the‫ه‬Sahabi‫ه‬lived‫ه‬to‫ه‬be‫ه‬94‫ه‬years‫ه‬old.‫ه‬ When‫ه‬he‫ه‬passed‫ه‬away,‫ه‬he‫ه‬had‫ه‬white‫ه‬hair‫ه‬everywhere‫ه‬except‫ه‬ where‫ه‬the‫ه‬Prophet's‫ه‬hand‫ه‬had‫ه‬touched‫ه‬his‫ه‬head,‫ه‬which‫ه‬ remained‫ه‬dark. 2. TheْSahabiْwithْtheْDuaْforْBeauty:‫ه‬Another‫ه‬story‫ه‬ involves‫ه‬a‫ه‬different‫ه‬Sahabi‫ه‬for‫ه‬whom‫ه‬the‫ه‬Prophet‫ه)ﷺ(ه‬made‫ه‬a‫ه‬ special‫ه‬dua‫(ه‬prayer),‫ه‬asking‫ه‬Allah‫ه‬to‫ه‬bless‫ه‬him‫ه‬with‫ه‬beauty.‫ه‬ This‫ه‬Sahabi‫ه‬lived‫ه‬to‫ه‬be‫ه‬120‫ه‬years‫ه‬old‫ه‬and‫ه‬had‫ه‬only‫ه‬a‫ه‬few‫ه‬ strands‫ه‬of‫ه‬white‫ه‬hair,‫ه‬showing‫ه‬the‫ه‬special‫ه‬favor‫ه‬he‫ه‬received‫ه‬ from‫ه‬the‫ه‬Prophet’s‫ه‬prayer. 3. TheْStoryْofْUmmeْMa'bad:‫ه‬During‫ه‬the‫ه‬Prophet’s‫ه‬migration‫ه‬ to‫ه‬Madinah,‫ه‬he‫ه‬passed‫ه‬by‫ه‬the‫ه‬tent‫ه‬of‫ه‬a‫ه‬woman‫ه‬named‫ه‬ Umme‫ه‬Ma'bad.‫ه‬At‫ه‬that‫ه‬time,‫ه‬she‫ه‬had‫ه‬a‫ه‬weak‫ه‬and‫ه‬sickly‫ه‬goat‫ه‬ that‫ه‬was‫ه‬unable‫ه‬to‫ه‬produce‫ه‬milk.‫ه‬The‫ه‬Prophet‫ه)ﷺ(ه‬gently‫ه‬ touched‫ه‬the‫ه‬goat,‫ه‬and‫ه‬with‫ه‬his‫ه‬blessed‫ه‬hand,‫ه‬it‫ه‬became‫ه‬ healthy‫ه‬and‫ه‬began‫ه‬to‫ه‬produce‫ه‬an‫ه‬abundance‫ه‬of‫ه‬milk.‫ه‬This‫ه‬ miracle‫ه‬not‫ه‬only‫ه‬provided‫ه‬sustenance‫ه‬for‫ه‬Umme‫ه‬Ma'bad‫ه‬but‫ه‬ also‫ه‬demonstrated‫ه‬the‫ه‬miraculous‫ه‬power‫ه‬of‫ه‬the‫ه‬Prophet’s‫ه‬ touch,‫ه‬showcasing‫ه‬his‫ه‬compassion‫ه‬and‫ه‬the‫ه‬blessings‫ه‬that‫ه‬ followed‫ه‬him‫ه‬wherever‫ه‬he‫ه‬went. 4. TheْMiracleْofْWater:‫ه‬On‫ه‬another‫ه‬occasion,‫ه‬the‫ه‬Prophet‫ه‬ Muhammad‫ه)ﷺ(ه‬provided‫ه‬water‫ه‬to‫ه‬his‫ه‬companions‫ه‬from‫ه‬his‫ه‬ blessed‫ه‬hands.‫ه‬This‫ه‬water‫ه‬was‫ه‬described‫ه‬as‫ه‬more‫ه‬sacred‫ه‬ than‫ه‬the‫ه‬water‫ه‬of‫ه‬Zamzam‫ه‬and‫ه‬the‫ه‬river‫ه‬of‫ه‬Al-Kauthar,‫ه‬ emphasizing‫ه‬its‫ه‬purity‫ه‬and‫ه‬significance.‫ه‬The‫ه‬companions‫ه‬  were‫ه‬amazed‫ه‬by‫ه‬this‫ه‬miracle,‫ه‬as‫ه‬the‫ه‬water‫ه‬not‫ه‬only‫ه‬ quenched‫ه‬their‫ه‬thirst‫ه‬but‫ه‬also‫ه‬served‫ه‬as‫ه‬a‫ه‬reminder‫ه‬of‫ه‬the‫ه‬ Prophet's‫ه‬unique‫ه‬connection‫ه‬to‫ه‬divine‫ه‬blessings.‫ه‬This‫ه‬event‫ه‬ highlighted‫ه‬the‫ه‬miraculous‫ه‬nature‫ه‬of‫ه‬the‫ه‬Prophet’s‫ه‬life‫ه‬and‫ه‬ the‫ه‬special‫ه‬gifts‫ه‬bestowed‫ه‬upon‫ه‬him‫ه‬by‫ه‬Allah. The‫ه‬hand‫ه‬of‫ه‬the‫ه‬Prophet‫ه‬Muhammad‫ه)ﷺ(ه‬was‫ه‬known‫ه‬for‫ه‬its‫ه‬ blessings‫ه‬and‫ه‬mercy.‫ه‬Many‫ه‬Companions‫ه‬experienced‫ه‬the‫ه‬ effects‫ه‬of‫ه‬his‫ه‬touch,‫ه‬which‫ه‬brought‫ه‬them‫ه‬health,‫ه‬longevity,‫ه‬ and‫ه‬protection.‫ه‬His‫ه‬hand‫ه‬was‫ه‬not‫ه‬only‫ه‬a‫ه‬source‫ه‬of‫ه‬comfort‫ه‬ but‫ه‬also‫ه‬a‫ه‬symbol‫ه‬of‫ه‬divine‫ه‬favor,‫ه‬leaving‫ه‬lasting‫ه‬impressions‫ه‬ on‫ه‬those‫ه‬who‫ه‬were‫ه‬fortunate‫ه‬enough‫ه‬to‫ه‬receive‫ه‬his‫ه‬ blessings. َ ‫إهذَا َمشَى َكأَنَّ َما يَن َحطْ فهي‬، ْ‫صبَب‬ When‫ه‬He‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫صلىه ه‬would‫ه‬walk,‫ه‬He‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫صلىه ه‬walked‫ه‬by‫ه‬ raising‫ه‬and‫ه‬placing‫ه‬His‫للاهعليهههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬Sacred‫ه‬Feet‫ه‬firmly‫ه‬on‫ه‬the‫ه‬ ground,‫ه‬like‫ه‬when‫ه‬descending‫ه‬an‫ه‬incline‫ه‬from‫ه‬a‫ه‬height. ‫ َوإهذَا التَفَتَْ التَفَتَْ َمعا‬، When‫ه‬He‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬Would‫ه‬Turn,‫ه‬He‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬Would‫ه‬Do‫ه‬ So‫ه‬Completely. In‫ه‬other‫ه‬words,‫ه‬while‫ه‬walking‫ه‬if‫ه‬He‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬needed‫ه‬to‫ه‬turn‫ه‬ to‫ه‬look‫ه‬at‫ه‬someone‫ه‬etc.‫ه‬He‫هصلىهللاهعليههوسلمه‬would‫ه‬not‫ه‬just‫ه‬turn‫ه‬His‫ه‬ ‫للاهعليههوسلم‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬Blessed‫ه‬Head‫ه‬from‫ه‬side‫ه‬to‫ه‬side‫ه‬etc.‫ه‬But‫ه‬He‫للاه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬ ‫هعليههوسلم‬would‫ه‬turn‫ه‬His‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬entire‫ه‬body‫ه‬in‫ه‬that‫ه‬direction.‫ه‬ In‫ه‬this,‫ه‬there‫ه‬is‫ه‬a‫ه‬show‫ه‬of‫ه‬self-esteem‫ه‬and‫ه‬honour,‫ه‬because‫ه‬to‫ه‬ merely‫ه‬extend‫ه‬the‫ه‬head‫ه‬out‫ه‬from‫ه‬side‫ه‬to‫ه‬side‫ه‬is‫ه‬a‫ه‬sign‫ه‬of‫ه‬ sloppiness.‫ه‬When‫ه‬a‫ه‬person‫ه‬walks‫ه‬around‫ه‬looking‫ه‬here‫ه‬and‫ه‬there,‫ه‬ extending‫ه‬his‫ه‬head‫ه‬out‫ه‬peering‫ه‬here‫ه‬and‫ه‬there,‫ه‬it‫ه‬is‫ه‬a‫ه‬sign‫ه‬of‫ه‬ carelessness‫ه‬and‫ه‬of‫ه‬being‫ه‬unscrupulous. In‫ه‬other‫ه‬words,‫ه‬if‫ه‬someone‫ه‬looked‫ه‬at‫ه‬Him‫للاهعليهههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬ unexpectedly,‫ه‬without‫ه‬knowing‫ه‬anything‫ه‬about‫ه‬Him‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫صلىه ه‬,‫ه‬ and‫ه‬if‫ه‬one‫ه‬only‫ه‬looked‫ه‬at‫ه‬His‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬physique‫ه‬and‫ه‬His‫هصلىه‬ ‫للاهعليههوسلم‬ ‫ه ه‬appearance,‫ه‬he‫ه‬would‫ه‬be‫ه‬in‫ه‬awe,‫ه‬and‫ه‬he‫ه‬would‫ه‬be‫ه‬ overwhelmed‫ه‬with‫ه‬awe. ‫ه‬This‫ه‬was‫ه‬the‫ه‬magnificence‫ه‬of‫ه‬His‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬presence.‫ه‬Now,‫ه‬ what‫ه‬does‫ه‬this‫ه‬mean?‫ه‬It‫ه‬means‫ه‬that‫ه‬there‫ه‬are‫ه‬some‫ه‬people‫ه‬whom‫ه‬ the‫ه‬people‫ه‬fear‫ه‬due‫ه‬to‫ه‬their‫ه‬immense‫ه‬harshness,‫ه‬or‫ه‬they‫ه‬fear‫ه‬ someone‫ه‬because‫ه‬such‫ه‬a‫ه‬person‫ه‬is‫ه‬always‫ه‬angry,‫ه‬and‫ه‬they‫ه‬feel‫ه‬ that‫ه‬he‫ه‬is‫ه‬someone‫ه‬who‫ه‬will‫ه‬beat‫ه‬us‫ه‬up.‫ه‬ ‫ه‬Whereas‫ه‬there‫ه‬are‫ه‬those,‫ه‬who‫ه‬people‫ه‬are‫ه‬in‫ه‬awe‫ه‬about,‫ه‬due‫ه‬to‫ه‬ their‫ه‬physique‫ه‬and‫ه‬bodily‫ه‬appearance‫(ه‬i.e.‫ه‬their‫ه‬commanding‫ه‬ presence),‫ه‬that‫ه‬just‫ه‬by‫ه‬looking‫ه‬at‫ه‬such‫ه‬a‫ه‬person,‫ه‬the‫ه‬one‫ه‬looking‫ه‬ at‫ه‬him‫ه‬is‫ه‬struck‫ه‬with‫ه‬awe‫ه‬and‫ه‬amazement.‫ه‬ In‫ه‬other‫ه‬words,‫ه‬Almighty‫ه‬Allah‫ه‬blessed‫ه‬Huzoor‫ه‬e‫ه‬Akram‫للاهعليهه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬ ‫وسلم‬with‫ه‬such‫ه‬a‫ه‬commanding‫ه‬and‫ه‬magnificent‫ه‬stature,‫ه‬that‫ه‬on‫ه‬ looking‫ه‬at‫ه‬Him‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬the‫ه‬people‫ه‬would‫ه‬immediately‫ه‬ become‫ه‬awe-struck.  ُ‫ َو َمنْ َخالَ َط ْهُ َمع هرفَةْ أَ َحبَّ ْه‬، As‫ه‬for‫ه‬those‫ه‬who‫ه‬associated‫ه‬with‫ه‬Him‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬and‫ه‬sat‫ه‬with‫ه‬ Him‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬after‫ه‬knowing‫ه‬about‫ه‬Him‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫صلىه ه‬,‫ه‬then‫ه‬ they‫ه‬would‫ه‬fall‫ه‬deeply‫ه‬in‫ه‬love‫ه‬with‫ه‬Huzoor‫ه‬e‫ه‬Akram‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫صلىه ه‬. In‫ه‬other‫ه‬words,‫ه‬they‫ه‬would‫ه‬be‫ه‬taken‫ه‬aback‫ه‬by‫ه‬the‫ه‬fact‫ه‬that‫ه‬He‫ه‬ ‫للاهعليههوسلم‬ ‫صلىه ه‬was‫ه‬of‫ه‬such‫ه‬great‫ه‬stature‫ه‬and‫ه‬of‫ه‬such‫ه‬excellence,‫ه‬ yet‫ه‬He‫للاهعليهههوسلمه‬ ‫هصلىه ه‬was‫ه‬so‫ه‬kind,‫ه‬gentle,‫ه‬generous‫ه‬and‫ه‬attentive.‫ه‬ They‫ه‬would‫ه‬be‫ه‬amazed‫ه‬at‫ه‬His‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬‫هصلىه ه‬humility‫ه‬and‫ه‬ simplicity,‫ه‬and‫ه‬it‫ه‬was‫ه‬this‫ه‬that‫ه‬would‫ه‬cause‫ه‬the‫ه‬person‫ه‬to‫ه‬fall‫ه‬ deeply‫ه‬in‫ه‬love‫ه‬with‫ه‬the‫ه‬Beloved‫ه‬Rasool‫للاهعليههوسلمه‬ ‫صلىه ه‬. ُ‫يَقُو ُْل نَا هعت ُ ْه‬ His describer says:.‫ َوال بَع َدهُْ همثلَ ْهُ صلى للا عليه وسلم‬،ُ‫لَمْ أَ َْر قَبلَه‬ “I have never seen the like of him (Allah bless him and give him peace), neither before him nor after him.”
