Manual Name: Spring Fire Department Policies & Procedures Document Title: Smoke and Tobacco Free Workplace Policy and Procedures Chief’s Signature: Document Number: SFD.064 Date: 02/18/19 Revision Number: 00 PURPOSE Spring Fire Department is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace and to promoting the health and wellbeing of its personnel. Motivated by our cancer free initiative and desire to provide a healthy work environment for our personnel, the following smoking policy has been adopted. REVIEW The Fire Chief or designee is responsible for reviewing this policy annually and ensuring its accuracy. REFERENCES/DEFINITIONS Smoking – The act of lighting, smoking, or carrying a lighted or smoldering cigar, cigarette, vape or pipe, of any kind. Tobacco Product – Any product consisting of, in whole or in part, tobacco or any by-product of tobacco. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, smokeless tobacco, chewing tobacco, snuff, vape (E-juice) or other similar products. Use of Tobacco – Smoking, chewing consumption or use of tobacco products. PROCEDURE/POLICY It is the policy of Spring Fire Department to prohibit smoking, use of tobacco or possession of tobacco related products on or in all property owned or leased by or under the control of Spring Fire Department including all scenes, and as further described below, in order to provide and maintain a safe and healthy work environment for all personnel. Smoking and using tobacco products is viewed as the act of lighting, smoking, or carrying a lighted or smoldering cigar, cigarette or pipe of any kind, the use of tobacco chew products, and e-cigarettes. SCOPE The Smoke and Tobacco Free Workplace policy applies to: All property owned or leased by or under the control of Spring Fire Department. All vehicles owned or leased by Spring Fire Department. All visitors on property owned or leased by or under the control of Spring Fire Department. All contractors and consultants and/or their employees working on property owned or leased by or under the control of Spring Fire Department. All scenes where personnel are performing job related duties and/or training. PROCEDURES Personnel who violate this smoking policy will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination. Page 1 of 1
