They must be completed before the end of shift, Notes shouldn’t be made in collaboration with other officers (strive always to provide a fulsome independent account), and Entries that aren’t in chronological order shall be marked as ‘Late Entry’ (L.E.), cross-referenced to other entries by way of page number and shall reflect the current date and time, with a reason provided. 5 ‘On Line’ and ‘In Person’ Establish your good practices You are expected to take notes each work day during OPC’s BCT program (both ‘on line’ and ‘in person’ training) in accordance with: Your law enforcement policy on note taking, and OPC’s Rubric & Notebook Templates, Notebooks will be randomly checked by APL instructors and Peer Notebook Reports completed in the ‘In Person’ training. 6 What’s wrong with these notes? 7 Basic Rules Chronological order preferred Strive to record statements verbatim Account for all times Document the situation Be objective Record all evidence from everyone 8 Basic Rules CONTEMPORANEOUS CONSISTENT THOROUGH ACCURATE DETAILED 9 Objective Following the 3 necessary elements of daily notebook entries you will practice the implementation in your notebook based on a case study. 10 Based on the accompanied case study apply the three to your notebook. 1. Tour of duty (the start of every tour of duty) 2. Investigations (what you capture during your investigation) 3.
