Private Domain in E-mail Marketing Importance of Private Domain 1. There are certain things that must be done when starting a business and getting a private domain is one of them. 2. Using a private domain (e.g. [email protected]), rather than a public domain (e.g. [email protected]), is essential for many business reasons. 3. Here are top 3 REASONS you should use PRIVATE DOMAIN: (a) E-mail Delivery (b) Security (c) Ensures Trustworthiness Where and How to get a domain Please follow the following steps, if you don’t have a domain: 1. Brainstorm Ideas- ü Try to avoid hard to spell words ü Avoid using numbers in domain ü Avoid hyphens ü Get the “.com” for your domain 2. Check the availability- You may use the services of whois.net to check if the finalized domain is available. 3. Register the domain-If you don’t have a website, you can check out any of the following services to buy a domain and hosting: www.wix.com www.godaddy.com How to set up Google Workspace - Register an account and go through the Google Workspace setup wizard - Add other users to your account (optional) - Verify domain ownership with Google by adding a TXT record to your DNS records - Set up email by adding MX records Complete the Google Workspace account setup To get started, you’ll need to create your actual Google Workspace account Next, indicate whether your business already has a domain name. If you already have a website that you want to use with Google Workspace, you should choose Yes, I Have One I Can Use Then, you’ll need to enter a username and password that you’ll use to sign into Google Workspace. Your username will be your business email address by default (i.e. [email protected]), so you should keep that in mind when choosing which username to use. Verify your domain name with Google Now is when you start getting into the more technical aspects of how to set up Google Workspace (G Suite). First, you’ll need to verify your domain ownership with Google by adding something called a TXT record. Adding an SPF record helps protect against IDENTITY THEFT. 2. An SPF record is a type of Domain Name Service(DNS) record that identifies which mail servers are permitted to send email on behalf of your domain. 3. If someone tries to send emails from your domain on a different server, the ISPs such as Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc. will see that the email was sent from an un-authorized sender and the email will be blocked. 4. Each hosting provider normally has their own instructions on how to do this. You may search through their knowledge base or contact their support for help. Once you find the setting to edit your SPF records, you will simply have to add a line of text. Bonus: DKIM Authentication 1. What is DKIM? DomainKeys Identified Mail, grants an organization the responsibility of a message being delivered. The organization is either the main sender or the originator, of the email message. The organization is known as the Identifier. The identifiers reputation is responsible for email delivery success. Ultimately, DKIM verifies the domain through cryptographic authentication. 2. To take full advantage of DKIM, you will need to update your DKIM CName for each of the domains you will be sending from. Updating your Cname is the only step you will have to complete. It is not mandatory to update your Cname, but it is highly recommended. Compliance Corporate Email ESP IP address/es IP address/es Reputation Score Factors 1.
