To know on how to improve self-awareness. LESSON 1 WHAT IS SELF-AWARENESS Self-Awareness is a result of consciousness of your strength and weakness. It also requires you to have a clear perception of your mental and emotional state. Self-Awareness can help to improve your Relationship with others and increase your way of productivity. It allows the self to take deeper observations of your surroundings. There are two (2) types of Self- Awareness Two (2) types of Self-Awareness 1. Public Self- 2. Consciousness – it is the awareness of your internal experiences, including the self-emotions and thoughts. 2. Self-Knowledge – it is about on the understanding “who you are” including the self-beliefs, values, and motivations. 3. Emotional Intelligence – it focuses on the ability to understand and manage emotions. 4. Self-Acceptance – it is about accepting who you are and showing yourself compassion and kindness. 5. Self-Reflection – this elements is the way of enabling the self to think deeply and reflect deeply about your feelings, thought, and goals. It is also the process to know the strength and weakness part you experienced in a day. LESSON 2: FACTORS INFLUENCING SELF-AWARENESS AND SELF-ESTEEM Self-esteem is one’s evaluations of their own worth of value, that has a crucial role in supporting Self- awareness for truly understand one’s thought, emotions, and behaviors. 1. Psychological Factors Personality traits and cognitive has a big influence in Self-Awareness and Seld-Esteem Introversion and Extroversion has an impact on how we perceive ourselves and how we interact with others. 2. Social Factors Interactions with our family and peers are significantly shape our Self-Awareness and Self-Esteem. Parental and Siblings relationship influenced in foster a healthy sense of self or contributed to insecurities. Peer interactions by social compassion and peer acceptance has a big role on how we see ourselves. 3. Cultural Factors Cultural Norms, values, and social identities has greatly influenced our Self- Awareness and Self-Esteem. Cultural Influence helps us to contextualize our self-perceptions and Self-esteem in a broader societal framework. 4. Environmental Factors Socioeconomic status and life experiences found that it has a impact on self- awareness and self-esteem. It will affect through access to resources and opportunities that can influence the perceptions of the selves and capabilities. Traumas and significant achievements 5. Biological Factors Genetics and hormonal can influence in self-awareness. Genetic makeup can predispose us to certain personality and mental health that will affect how we perceive ourselves. Factors that can affect Self-Awareness and Self-Esteem Negatively in Media - Nowadays, Media has a big role on each anyone’s life, it influence the individual’s perceptions. - Within the Media can have a negative impact of Self-awareness and Self-Esteem. The following are some media factors affecting Self-Awareness and Self-Esteem Unrealistic Beauty Standards – Media promotes unrealistic beauty standards, showcasing idealized body types, flawless skin, and perfect appearance. Unrealistic Standards can develop poor body image and self-esteem issues when they compare themselves to unattainable ideals. Social Comparison – Seeing curated version of other’s lives on social media can affect the perceptions of reality and create a sense of fear of missing out that contributed to feelings of dissatisfaction with one’s own life. Cyberbullying and Online Harassment – being subjective to negative comments, hate speech, and cyberbullying can have detrimental effects on individual’s self- awareness and self-esteem that can resulting to feeling of shame, self-doubt, and social isolation. Misinformation and Misinterpretation – Exposure of misinformation can lead to confusion, mistrust, and decreased self-awareness as an individual struggle to discern fact from fiction. Challenges in Achieving Self-Awareness While self-awareness is a valuable trait, it is not always easy to achieve. Various obstacles can hinder our ability to see ourselves clearly and objectively. This section will discuss common challenges such as cognitive biases, emotional barriers, and external pressures that can impede self-awareness. Cognitive biases are systematic patterns of deviation from norm or rationality in judgment. These biases can cloud one's judgment and hinder self-awareness by influencing how we perceive ourselves and our actions. Examples include: Confirmation Bias: The tendency to search for, interpret, and remember information that confirms one's pre-existing beliefs, while ignoring or dismissing contradictory evidence. This can prevent individuals from seeing their true strengths and weaknesses. Self-Serving Bias: The tendency to attribute positive events to one's own character but attribute negative events to external factors. This can lead to an inflated sense of self and prevent individuals from recognizing areas for improvement. Write down your goals To achieve some clarity of your goals, take time to write down because sometimes many task or responsibilities become overwhelming. Making a list of your task and responsibilities can help you to focus your energy and provide directions in your life. Here are some tips on how you can develop your self-awareness 3. Get feedback at work Getting feedback on you can help you understand how others perceive your actions, if your actions match with the view of others. Here are some tips on how you can develop your self-awareness 4. Talk to your Friends Your friends are your friends because they know the best for you. They can provide insight into your past behavior and if you have been too hard on yourself, your friends can tell you that. Create a life timeline Timeline is one way that can help you to visualize where you like your life to go and when you like to get there.
