Practical Behaviour Sec 1 Point of the Farm Animals Points of the Horse The body of the animal is apparently classified into Three regions: 1- Points of head 1- Poll It is the highest movable area, it is the region which is situated between the ears 2- Fore lock The tuft of hair which hanged between 2 ears, it originated from the pool 3- Ear The external Concha of the ear "الصيوان 4- Fore head A large broad area surrounded by: ears, poll & fore-lock proximally, Orbit and eyes Distally 5- Supra-orbital A deep groove above the orbits fossa 6- Eye It contains: “ each eye-lid have eye lashed” a- The eye-ball b- The upper eye-lid c- The lower eye lid d- Nictitating membrane “3rd eye lid”: Transparent membrane originated from medial aspect of the eye to protect the eye Found in ( Horse , Camel & Poultry ) 7- Zygomatic ridge A distinct small prominence underneath or below the eye or fascia crest 8- Nasal bridge or The extended bones from the fore-head till the beginning of Nostril. bridge of Nose or extended bone of Premaxilla 9- Nostrils Opening of the Nose & separated by septum nasi 10- False Nostrils Blind pouch of skin dorsal to the true nostrils present in horse also called “nasal diverticulum”, it makes warming, filtration & Circulation of the Air 11- Mouth It contains the mouth commissures, tongue, the teeth and the gum 12- Muzzle The region of the upper lip, it is dry and movable in horse 13-Muffle The region of upper lip , it fixed, wet or moist in cattle 13- Lower lip 14- Chin 15- Chin Groove 16- Cheek 17- Face Nearly all the points included before on either side & front view of the head 18- Upper Jaw (the Premaxilla) 19- Lower Jaw (the mandible) ( maxilla) 20- Inter-maxillary it is a space between the branches of the lower jaw, just in front of space (Jowl) the throat 21- Parotid region situated behind the angle of the jaw 22- Throat 1 Practical Behaviour Sec 1 2- Points of the neck 1- Crest The upper (highest fixed) part of the neck from which grows the mane 2- Mane Long hair originates from the crest rest on either side of neck 3- Jugular groove A groove running down the neck above the trachea 4- Jugular vein Running in the jugular groove 5- Windpipe Tube present on the neck of animal on right side 6- Oesophagus Situated slightly above the trachea, on the left side of the neck 1.
