Principle and use of Biological Safety Cabinet: The Biological Safety Cabinet (BSC) protects the researcher, the research materials, and other lab members through a simple system of airflow and filters. Biological safety cabinets are used to protect the operator, the laboratory environment, and experimental materials from exposure to infectious aerosols and splash when operating infectious experimental materials such as primary cultures, bacterial strains, and diagnostic specimens. Biosafety Cabinet Application: A biosafety cabinet is widely applied in 1- scientific research 2- teaching 3- clinical testing production in the fields of microbiology, biomedicine, genetic engineering, and biological products. Note: - The biosafety cabinet is the basic safety protection equipment in the first-level protective barrier of laboratory biosafety. Types of biological safety cabinets include: 1. Class I: Provides personnel and environmental protection. 2. Class II: Provides personnel, environmental, and product protection. 3. Class III: Provides personnel, environmental, and product protection in a completely enclosed system. Maintenance of safety cabinet: Lab managers must determine optimal maintenance and cleaning routines to prolong BSC lifespan and ensure performance. This involves regular certification and testing of HEPA filters, along with adherence to stringent decontamination processes.
