PTEROCARPUS MARSUPIAM NMM, INTRODUCTON Botanical Name :-Pterocarpus marsupium Family :-Leguminosae Common Name :-Malabar Kino, Indian kino tree or Vijayasar Geographical Distribution:-It is found in hilly regions of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Orissa. It is also found in forests of Karnal, Kerala, West Bengal, and Assam. Part used:-Bark, Leaves, Heartwood, Flower Uses:- Anti-Diabetic Arthritis Anti-diarrhoeal Bleeding and gout problem In the treatment of Toothache In Dyeing,Tanning and Printing CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS Heartwood : Isoflavonoids, Terpenoids, Tannins Roots : 5-deoxy-kaempferol, pseudo- dobatagenin ,Pterosupin, Pterostibene, Marsupsin, Carpusin Kino gum from bark :Kinotannic acid, kino-red, beta-eudesmol Others: Isoliquiritigenin, Liquiritigenin, epicatechin, marsupinol ACTIVE CONSTITUENTS :Kinotannic acid, Pteroside, Marsupsin STRUCTURE OF CHEMICAL CONSTITUENT Liquiritigenin Pterosupin Pterostilbene ACTIVE CONSTITUENT Marsupin Pteroside Kinotannic acid MECHANISM OF ACTION The active constituents of P.marsupiam are phenolic compound It significantly lowered the blood glucose level of hyperglycemic, the effect were due to an increase in insulin secration, it impaired glycogen synthesis in the liver secondary to diabetes. P.marsupiam was shown to slow the development ,progression and severity of contact, a common complication of chronic diabetes.
