Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning VI. POLICIES AND GUIDELINES FOR SYNCHRONOUS AND ASYNCHRONOUS INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY 2. Guidelines in Conducting/Attending Synchronous Class a. Before a Synchronous Class i. For Students: Observe proper dress code (face-to-face dress code applies). Observe personal good grooming. Choose a decent background. Choose a place at home where there are no distractions (people or noise). Only open applications that will be utilized during the class to save internet bandwidth. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning See to it that the device to be utilized during class is fully charged to avoid disruption. Pre-download the needed online application (Meet or Zoom) to be used in class. Prepare notebook and pen for note—taking. Be ready at all times for any online-related activities (virtual class behavior). Log-in/join the class at least 10 minutes before the scheduled class. In case of disconnection due to slow connectivity, rejoin the class to catch-up. Do not share the link, meeting ID, password, code to anyone not officially enrolled in the class. Not allowed to join the class of another section. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning VI. POLICIES AND GUIDELINES FOR SYNCHRONOUS AND ASYNCHRONOUS INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY 2. Guidelines in Conducting/Attending Synchronous Class b. During Synchronous Class i. For Students: Refrain from opening other computer applications which are not needed in the class. Use clear and concise language. Strictly speak English for English medium subjects or Filipino for Filipino medium subjects. Do not use slang terms, sarcasm and emoticons. Refrain from chatting with classmates on non-related topics. Pay attention to the facilitator at all times. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning In the chat box, do not write in CAPITAL LETTERS your comments, questions, etc. (it appears like you are shouting) Refrain from manipulating the screen and do screen sharing without permission from the host. Refrain from shaming classmates and the faculty such as but may not limited to making screenshots, memes, face app whice are not only discriminating but demeaning. Wait for the faculty to rejoin the class in case the faculty gets disconnected. Otherwise, an instruction will be sent through group chat or text message. Adhere to laws protecting the welfare of the other persons such as but not limited to cyber bullying, cyber sexual harassment, etc. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning VI. POLICIES AND GUIDELINES FOR SYNCHRONOUS AND ASYNCHRONOUS INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY 2. Guidelines in Conducting/Attending Synchronous Class c. After Synchronous Class i. For Students: Notify the faculty immediately if you are disconnected or absent during the session and request a copy of the session’s recording. Clarify immediately from the faculty the topics which are not fully understood. Perform the activities which are missed during online class. Submit the required output to the faculty on schedule. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning B. ASYNCHRONOUS INSTRUCTION Asynchronous instruction allows the students to learn lessons on their own schedule. The faculty provides materials, lectures, videos, tests, and assignments that can be accessed online/offline. Students are given one week timeframe access the learning materials and submit their outputs via digital platforms. 2. Guidelines in Conducting Asynchronous Class a. For students: Access the recorded synchronous class session from the Google Classroom to be used as learning or review material. Access the task sheets from the Google Classroom in order to be guided on what are the tasks/activities to be accomplished within the week. If online, accomplish the worksheets/activity sheets using the Google Docs. Download first the worksheets/activity sheets in order to accomplish the tasks offline. If online, view the uploaded videos or access links to view the video during independent study time. Download the videos when necessary to review the learning materials offline. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Follow strictly the netiquette and guidelines during stream discussions. Follow strictly the policies and guidelines for examinations. Submit the desired output on or before the deadline. Regularly communicate with the faculty for class updates and academic performance. Adhere to data security and privacy on materials submitted online. Ensure the integrity and academic honesty in the submitted output. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning GRADING SYSTEM The University adopts an averaging grading system. The student’s grade in every term at all levels is based on the program outcomes such as major examinations, quizzes, recitations, assignments, and on other evidences upon which the instructor can gauge the student’s general performance. Grades shall be computed as follows: Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning GRADING SYSTEM for Social Orientation Subject Attendance and Participation 35% Quizzes/Outputs 30% Exams or Term Requirement 35% TOTAL 100% The grading system will be AVERAGING, in which the term grades (Prelim, Midterm, Semifinal, and final) are added and divide it by four. The result will be the FINAL SUBJECT GRADE at the end of the semester. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning EXAMINATIONS 1. Term exams shall be administered as scheduled. Final examinations shall be administered by department. The schedule shall be announced by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. 2. An Examination Permit is required for every term exam. The Examination Permit is secured from the Cashier’s Office. Any erasures or alterations on the Examination Permit shall invalidate the Permit and disqualify the student from taking the examination without prejudice to disciplinary action. 3. A student who fails to take a periodic examination shall notify the instructor concerned on the subject as soon as possible. A letter or any document explaining his/her failure to take the examination shall be required. 4. Upon the recommendation of the instructor, the College Dean may approve a special examination. A Special Examination Permit is secured from the Office of the College Dean after payment is made at the Cashier’s Office. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning CRITERIA FOR SCHOLASTIC HONORS 1. All colleges shall ascertain and evaluate their honor students and have the Official List of Honors submitted to the Registrar’s Office for confirmation. 2. Names of students recommended for Honors shall be submitted to the Awards Committee for review and deliberation. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning GRADE COMPUTATION FOR GRADUATING HONOR STUDENTS Awards are given to deserving graduating students who meet the criteria of a particular award and have not been found guilty of violation of the Code of Conduct as stated in the Student Handbook. Awards are given to students who complete their course with the following grade requirements and shall receive the corresponding Honors upon graduation: Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning 2. Remarks of Dropped or Incomplete (INC) grade, which is not complied within the prescribed period of one semester from the time the grade was incurred, shall disqualify the candidate from graduating with honors. 3. Any record of Dropped or INC in any course taken in the student’s previous school or course shall disqualify the candidate from otherwise graduating with Latin Honors. 4. Grades obtained in the courses taken previously whether in the University or any other institution which are not credited with the present course are not included in the computation of the General Weighted Average (GWA). 5. The student must not have a Failed grade in any subject including Social Orientation (SO), National Service Training Program (NSTP) and Physical Education (P.E.). Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning AWARDS Academic Awards To qualify for any of the Academic Awards, the candidate must meet the following criteria: Summa Cum Laude and Magna Cum Laude - Must have four years of residency in the University Cum Laude - Must have three years of residency in the University 61 - Must have completed at least 75% of the total number of academic units Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Must enroll the subjects only once. Must carry the full load prescribed by the curriculum for the given semester except in the last semester or summer session. Must have no violations of the Code of Conduct as stipulated in the Student Handbook during the his/her stay in the University. Must have completed all requirements for graduation Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Outstanding Student Awards The Outstanding Graduate Award (Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Cum Laude) is given at the Commencement Ceremonies to an undergraduate for the excellent performance in academic and superior contribution to the promotion of Licean values and ideals. A Gold Medal is given to the Outstanding Graduate Awardee. Criteria used are as follows: - Academic Performance - Responsible Leadership - Firm Moral stand/conviction and service to the community - Compliance with appropriate residency The College may or may not give an Outstanding Graduate Award. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Outstanding in Practicum or Internship Award and Clinical Efficiency Award The Outstanding in Practicum or Internship Award is given upon the recommendation of the College Dean. The decision shall be based on the rating given by (a.) the company or firm where 62 the student had the internship, and (b.) the assigned Adviser/ Supervisor. The Clinical Efficiency Award is given to the graduating student who has met the criteria set by the College as recommended by the Clinical Instructor and College Dean. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Leadership Award This award is given to a graduating student based on the recommendation of the College Deans, and subject to the final approval of the Awards Committee. The criteria are as follows: 5.1. The candidate must be an officer for at least two years of the Student Body Organization and recognized Club or Sub-Organization of the University; 5.2. The candidate must have exhibited outstanding achievements as a leader in all the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in the University; 5.3. The candidate must have no grade of Failed, and 5.4. The candidate must have no violations of the Code of Conduct as stipulated in the Student Handbook during the his/her stay in the University. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Loyalty Award A Loyalty Gold Medal is given to a graduating student who has finished Elementary, High School, and College at the Liceo de Cagayan University. A student who stopped schooling but resumed studies to graduate at Liceo U is also eligible to receive this award. A Plaque of Appreciation or a Loyalty Medallion is also given to a graduating student who finished Elementary, High School, College and Graduate/ Professional School at the University. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Presidential Award The University gives the Presidential Award to a student who graduates Summa Cum Laude. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning GENERAL CODE OF CONDUCT 1. A student is always expected to exhibit good conduct and proper behavior. 2. A student must follow the policies and procedures set by the University. 3. A student must wear the prescribed uniform and ID with dignity and respect. 4. A student must respect and obey persons in authority and consider the rights of their fellow students. 5. A student must maintain the highest personal standard of academic performance, communication and social skills. 6. A student must always be neat and presentable with the utmost standard of personal hygiene. 7. A student must share in the responsibility of keeping the University clean and in order to ensure the health and safety of all its members. 8. A student must maximize his/her development by taking full advantage of all available curricular and extra-curricular opportunities the University offers. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning 9. Liceo de Cagayan University cannot be held responsible for any form of behavior or activity of a student outside the campus. However, the student may be subjected to disciplinary procedures for improper conduct in a University function outside the campus or for irresponsible /unauthorized use of the name of the University in cases where the misconduct involves his status as a student or tends to tarnish the good name of the University. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning STUDENT DECORUM 1. A student must always show respect as an inherent Licean behavior to foster harmonious coexistence among students, faculty and staff, and other school authorities. 2. A student should support and promote the creation of a positive and an excellent learning environment, whether in a face-to-face instruction or online classroom. 3. A student/ group of students is not allowed to initiate any forum, especially in the online classroom without the permission of the faculty 4. A student must refrain from using vulgar or profane language in any form of communication and in any social media platforms. 5. Complaints must be channeled to the proper person or offices in person or via email and phone call. 6. A student must always exercise academic honesty. Cheating in any form, including plagiarism, is a serious violation and subject to disciplinary sanction. 7. A student should avoid peddling, loitering, littering and smoking inside the campus. 8. A student is not allowed to enter the campus when under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol or any illegal substance. 9. A student must observe proper queuing in the Canteen, Cashier or Registrar’s Office or in any other service areas. 10. A student must turn-off or put into silent mode all electronic gadgets during class hours, (unless used as part of an instruction) and most especially while inside the chapel or the library. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning IDENTIFICATION CARD 1. All bona fide students are issued the University Identification Card (ID) at the start of the school year. 2. A student must secure the prescribed University ID at the University Publishing. 3. The University ID card shall be validated every semester. 4. The University ID, together with the prescribed lanyard must be worn upon entering the campus. ID must always be worn while inside the University premises. 5. Tampering and using another student’s ID or allowing one’s ID to be used by another student is a major offense and merit disciplinary action. 6. Any form of alteration of the University ID is considered a major offense. 7. Manufacturing or using of falsified ID is prohibited and is considered a serious offense. 8. Lost ID must be reported immediately to the Student Affairs Office. 9. For lost ID, a student must secure an Affidavit of Loss and file a completed Application for Replacement at the Office of Student Affairs. A corresponding fee shall be paid at the Cashier’s Office. 10. A student may be required to present the University ID upon request by any personnel for any transaction in the University. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning DRESS CODE 1. A student who comes to school on a non-uniform or non-class day is expected to dress appropriately and respectably as befits a University. 2. This code is applicable also to all members of the community (students, administrators, faculty and staff) and visitors of the University. The University reserves the right to disallow entry of individuals who fail to observe this Dress Code. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning NETIQUETTE POLICY AND GUIDELINES FOR ONLINE CLASS Students must recognize that entering an online classroom is in fact a classroom and certain behaviors are expected when communicating with peers and facilitators. These guidelines for online classroom conduct and interaction are known as Netiquette. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Security The email password and course code are very important security features in an online class. 1.1. Do not share email password and course code to anyone. 1.2. Change the email password if you think someone else knows it. 1.3. Always log out after using the online platforms. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning General Guidelines When communicating online, the student should always do the following: 2.1. Treat the faculty and classmates with utmost respect in email or any other meansof communication used in the online class. 2.2. Always use the professor’s proper title: Doctor or Professor, or if in doubt use Sir or Ma’am. 2.3. Use clear and concise language. 2.4. Observe correct spelling and grammar. This includes postings and discussions in the Google Classroom stream. 2.5. Avoid slang terms such as “wassup?” and texting abbreviations such as “u” instead of “you.” Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning 2.6. Use standard fonts such as Cambria, Calibri or Times new Roman and use a size twelve (12) font. 2.7. Avoid using the caps lock feature, as it can be interpreted as yelling. 2.8. Limit and possibly avoid the use of emoticons. 2.9. Be cautious about using humor or sarcasm. The tone is sometimes lost in an email or discussion post and the message might be taken seriously or sound offensive. 2.10. Be careful and cautious about posting or uploading personal information. 2.11. Do not send confidential information via e-mail. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Email Netiquette When sending an email to the faculty and classmates, the student should: 3.1. Use a descriptive subject line. 3.2. Be brief in writing the message. 3.3. Make sure that when sending attachments, the recipient can open it. 3.4. Sign the message with your name, course, year level, and College/ Department. 3.5. Be careful and cautious when sending e-mail to more than one person. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Stream Netiquette and Guidelines When posting on the Classroom Stream, the student should: 4.1. Make sure to post only the information or materials that are relevant to the topic and within the scope of the course. 4.2. Take posts seriously; and review and edit posts before sending. 4.3. Be as brief as possible while still making a thorough comment. 4.4. Always give proper credit when referencing or quoting another source. 4.5. Make sure to read all messages in a thread before replying. 4.6. Avoid repeating someone else’s post without adding something from his/her own opinion. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning 4.7. Avoid short, generic replies such as, “I agree.” The student should include explanation to why he/she agrees, or add to the previous point. 4.8. Always be respectful of other’s opinions even when they differ from your own. 4.9. Express differing opinion in a respectful and non- critical way. 4.10. Avoid making personal or insulting remarks. 4.11. Always be open-minded. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Cyberbullying Policy Any form of bullying which results in damage to a person’s identity and reputation, online threats, aggressive, or rude texts, tweets, posts, or messages all count. This also includes posting personal information, pictures, or videos designed to hurt or embarrass someone else. When technology is used to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person, such is considered cyberbullying. Students, teachers, and all school personnel are protected and shall abide by the antibullying policy consistent with the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10627, known as the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013 and the Republic Act of 2012, known as Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. Any violation of the Cyberbullying Policy shall be meted to disciplinary sanction. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning USE OF UNIVERSITY NAME AND SEAL 1. The Liceo de Cagayan University community must treat with the highest respect the University’s name and seal as identity marks which has its copyright registered with the Department of Trade and Industry. 2. No individual or group shall unilaterally use the name and seal of the University in any activity (i.e., fair, seminar, field trip, tour, contract, announcement, online stream etc.) or on a manufactured item. 3. Any individual and organization who wants to use the University’s name and seal must first seek written authorization and approval from the University President. 4. The University reserves the right to institute disciplinary sanctions, to the extent of filing criminal and civil cases, for acts of immoral representations, foul and vulgar language and all other actions consciously and irresponsibly executed in all sources and platforms of media involving the use of university emblems, including the school uniform Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning OFFENSES AND SANCTIONS Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning For VERY SERIOUS OFFENSES, the following shall be the sanctions: FIRST OFFENSE Ten-day Suspension or Dismissal depending on the gravity of the offense; Community Service; Formation and/Counseling Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning The following are considered Very Serious Offenses: 1. Unauthorized bringing in, possession or drinking of liquor or alcoholic beverages inside the University premises or entering the campus under the influence of liquor or dangerous drugs; 2. Bringing of deadly weapons inside the campus; 3. Fighting; involvement in disorder or brawls whether inside or outside the campus that affect the name of the University; 4. Gross dishonesty in a form of cheating during an examination, test or written reports, including reactions papers, case analysis, research or assignments required; 5. Fraudulent use of University student funds; 6. Use of school premises in any form of illegal or immoral activities such as but shall not be limited to gambling, scandalous sexual and intimate acts, hazing, pornography, voyeurism, and any other similar acts; Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning 7. Falsification, alteration, forgery, tampering, or unauthorized use of school records, identification cards, forms and any other documents; 8. Theft committed on the University premises; 9. Threatening the life of, or attempting to inflict, or inflicting injuries on any school authority or student, whether committed by a single student or group of students inside the school premises; 10. Any acts of immorality committed inside or outside the school premises. In case of the latter, the same shall be subject to a disciplinary sanction even if committed beyond the premises of the university if it tends to tarnish the good name of the university; 11. Indecent advances to any student or school personnel and display of lewd designs; 12. Instigating, leading, or participating in a non-recognized clubs and organizations, fraternities and sororities and concerted activities causing disruption of classes and other school-related activities; 13. Threatening and preventing students or faculty members and school authorities from discharging their duties or from attending classes and entering the school premises; Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning 14. Intentional destruction of school property or the property of another student or university employee; 15. Conviction of any criminal offense; 16. Unauthorized use of the name of the Liceo de Cagayan University in any forms of media or platform; 17. Any other acts and conduct that may constitute grave abuse of the student’s privilege and which are detrimental and injurious to the interest of the school; Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning XII. CODE OF CONDUCT OF STUDENTS The University uphold the values of discipline and lifelong learning of students. Each student is an important member in the educational community and has the responsibility to himself/herself, to the faculty, and to his/her classmates to support and contribute to the online classrooms' learning activities. Thus, it is prudent to establish a Code of Conduct expected of the students to behave themselves in an online classroom environment. A. Behavior in Electronic Communications 1. Students are expected to be courteous and professional in email communications and electronic discussions. 2. Students should treat all other students, faculty, and staff with dignity and respect in face-to-face interactions and in electronic communications. 3. Students shall participate respectfully and professionally in group collaborations, group projects, and peer reviews. 4. Students are not allowed to initiate forum in the online classroom without the permission of the faculty. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning 5. Students shall comply with all information technology policy of the University. 6. In case students may have some complaints, it must be channeled/communicated to the proper person or offices via e-mail or phone call. 7. The faculty may initiate in creating a topic (suggestion box) in the classwork of the online classroom so that the students can post their suggestions or comments that are related to the course. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning B. Attendance 1. Attendance of students shall be determined by the frequency of attending synchronous online or face-to-face sessions, participation in stream discussion, collaboration with group, and submission of outputs. 2. The faculty shall post the attendance in the Gradebook of the online classroom to promote participation of students in e-learning activities of the course. 3. If in case the record shows that the student has less participation and engagement in the teaching-learning activities of the course, the faculty will call immediately the attention of the student by sending e-mail or phone call for remediate action. 4. If in case poor attendance of students in caused by personal issues, problems to access learning resources or technical difficulties, the faculty will refer the students to the appropriate offices of the University. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning C. Self-motivation and Self Direction 1. An online class fosters in the students a student- centered and self-directed learning experience. To exhibit such experiences, the students must: Be self-motivated and self-disciplined Be a good time manager Approach the course with a desire to learn Assume a leadership role, and be a teacher when necessary Voluntarily help other students Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning C. Self-motivation and Self Direction 1. An online class fosters in the students a student- centered and self-directed learning experience. To exhibit such experiences, the students must: Develop needed technology skills Contribute to course discussion Listen to others, and respond respectfully to their comments Contribute to the activities, and respect the ideas of others Comply with all course policies Submit constructive suggestions for improving the course Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning D. Cheating Cheating is an act of student to bypass the learning process in order to obtain grades without doing the actual intellectual work that merits the grades. It is a fraudulent act that may misrepresent the actual performance, competency, or outputs of the student. 1. Liceans are expected to posses the virtues of honesty and integrity. As such, Liceans are expected NOT to cheat in any examination. 2. Cheating (copying another person’s answer, exchanging information) during examination shall not be tolerated and treated as a grave misconduct. 3. Getting someone else to take the online examination in his place is strictly prohibited. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning 4. Copying (screen shots taking photos, and flash drive), printing and distributing copies of online examinations is strictly prohibited. 5. Students are not allowed to have group test taking (gathering of students in one area or in a student’s domicile) during online examination. 6. Copying and submitting another student’s assignment is strictly prohibited. 7. If a student is caught or proven to have cheated during an examination, the result of the examination will not be recorded and such student will get a score of zero. The student will then be sent to the Dean’s Office or Student Affairs Office for the appropriate disciplinary actions. Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning E. Plagiarism Plagiarism is an act wherein the student presents/submits outputs which are done by someone else/another person. It is a very grave offense against academic integrity since it is an attempt to steal another person’s work (words or ideas) to gain unfair advantage such as attaining good grade. 1. Student shall be made aware that plagiarism is flagrantly an act of dishonesty. With diligent due process, any student engaging in it will result in dismissal from the course/university. The University considers the following as acts of plagiarism when a student: Directly copies word-for-word the quotation, paragraphs, and/or whole pages from any sources and submits/presents it as his/her output. Directly copies the style as well as the structure of another person’s work or fails to rephrase the meaning of such material in his/her own words; Submit someone’s paper or portions of a paper as his/her own work product; Scaling the Heights of Flexible Learning 2. The University considers the following as acts of plagiarism when a student: Download a paper (journal, research) from the internet and submit all or part of that paper as his/her own original work; Fail to cite or inappropriately cite words, information, or ideas from any source as if the output submitted represents his/her own original work. If a student is caught/proven plagiarizing his/her outputs, such outputs will not be recorded and will get a score of zero. The student will then be sent to the Dean’s Office or Student Affairs Office for the appropriate disciplinary action.
