POINTERS TO REVIEW IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH What are the benefits of doing Rhythmic Activities? Give some examples of Rhythmic Activities. FUNDAMENTALS OF RHYTHM  Elements of Rhythm 1. Underlying Beat or pulse Beat. The underlying beat/pulse determines the time signature of a piece of music or movements. 2. Measure - it was also known as the number of beats. 3. Rhythmic Pattern - also known as the “soul of the groove”. 4. Phrasing - it is also known as the number of measure. 5. Accent - Emphasis on a particular rhythmic detail. 6. Tempo - How fast or slow a piece of music is performed. 7. Intensity - Heaviness or lightness of the music  Elements of Movements Space 1. Direction—is the line of movement taken which maybe forward, backward, sideward, diagonal, upward, or a combination of those mentioned. 2. Level—is movement through space that maybe done at a high, low, or medium level. 3. Range—refers to the area covered as the body moves. 4. Floor Pattern—the path or design that is made while moving in space is what is termed as floor pattern.  Movement Qualities 1. Time Qualities 2. Force Qualities 3. Space Qualities FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENTS  Locomotor Movements - used to move the body from one to another or to project the body upward.  Non- Locomotor Movements - does not move the body from one to another place. a. Flexion – bending or shorting of the body part occurring at a joint. b. Extension – turning, twisting or circling c. Arm shoulder circling Examples: right arm circle forward, left arm circle forward, both arms circling d. Pendular – swinging / swaying arms forward, backward or sideward e. Percussive – striking and hitting; pushing and pulling f. Vibratory – shaking and beating g. Sustained – slow, smooth flowing movements series. h. Suspended – a sharp movement fallowed by slow movements.  Manipulative Skills - involve object handling that develops manipulative skills. PHASES OF THE DANCE PROGRAM 1. Creative Rhythms - Are sometimes called fundamental rhythms or natural dances. 2. Folk/ Ethnic dance - Is a cultural art form handed down from generation to generations. 3. Social and Ballroom Dance - social gathering with the more formal atmosphere , generally held in the evenings. 4. Recreational Dance -Includes dance mixers, square dance round and couple dances. 5. Creative Dance - Is the highest form of dance.
