# Experiment No. 3 ## Aim : * To measure room temperature and temperature of water using mercury thermometer and convert it into different scales. ## Apparatus Required: * Water * Beaker * Mercury thermometer ## Formula Used: * celcius = Ferkulite * C = 5/9 (F-32) * C = temp in celcius * F = temp in Ferenhite ## Method: 1. With the help of the thermometer, measure the temperature of the room. 2. Take water in a beaker and measure its temperature using the thermometer. 3. Note the readings, & change them to different scales using given formula. ## Calculations: ### Recorded Reading: * **room temperature:** 28°C * **water temperature:** 31°C ### Room temperature reading in °F: * 28/5 = (F-32)/9 * F = 252/5 + 32 * F = 82.2°F ### Room temperature reading in °F: * 31/5 = (F-32)/9 * F = 9*31/5 + 32 * F = 279/5 +32 * F = 87.8°F ## Result: * **Room temperature:** 28°C * **Water temperature:** 31°C * **Room temperature in Ferenhite:** 82.2°F * **Water temperature in Ferenhite:** 87.8°F ## Precautions: 1. The bulb should not touch the bottom of the beaker. 2. The bulb should be properly immersed in the solution/water. 3. Do not hold the thermometer by the bulb.
