What are some common signs and symptoms of eating disorders that individuals may exhibit, both physically and emotionally? Challenge the false belief that thinness, weight loss, or muscularity are desirable, while body fat and weight gain are shameful or indicate laziness, worthlessness, or immorality. Avoid attitudes or actions that DISORDERS: communicate, “I will like you better if you lose weight; do not eat so much or change your body shape.” 4. Do not think that a particular diet, weight, or body size will automatically lead to happiness and fulfillment. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 10 - SECOND QUARTER 5. Talk about yourself with PREVENTION respect and OF EATING appreciation and value yourself. DISORDERS: Embrace the natural diversity of human bodies and celebrate your body’s unique shape and size. 6. Become a critical viewer of media and messages about self-esteem and body image. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 10 - SECOND QUARTER PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH Mindful Eating Mindfulness is usually associated with meditation and stress relief but it can also be a powerful tool when choosing what we eat, how we are eating, and how our choices affect our health and that of our environment. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 10 - SECOND QUARTER Mindful Eating Just ask yourself the following questions: 1. WHO is growing your food? 2. WHAT are you eating? 3. WHEN are you eating? 4. Where does your food come from? 5. WHY are you eating? 6. HOW do you eat?
