Module 10 Social Relationships CONFUSION Social connection during adolescence plays a foundational role in youths' successful navigation of challenges at the individual, communal, and societal level. Young people also develop a greater capacity to form stronger relationships with adults outside of their families who may function as mentors. Compliance Changing one’s behavior as a result of other people directing or requesting for a change. Obedience A change in a behavior at the command of an authority figure. Module 10 Social Relationships LEADERSHIP as defined by Donelson Forsyth (2014), is the process by which person guides another person in their social goals often by organizing, directing, coordinating, supporting, and motivating their efforts. Module 10 Social Relationships TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP Occurs when one or more persons engage with others in such a way that leaders and followers raise one another to high levels of Module 10 Social Relationships motivation and morality. TRANSACTIONAL LEADERSHIP The follower and the leader cooperate with one another in the search of goal but their relationship is based on a exchange of resources (e.g. time, money, help, instructions etc.) Module 10 Social Relationships PASSIVE/AVOIDANT LEADERSHIP Leaders are uninvolved in the group activity. They do not take any action until mistakes are brought in their attention. They are often absent when needed, ignore followers’ requests for help and do not share their views to others. Module 10 Social Relationships Full-Range Leadership Model The value of the full range leadership model developed by Avolio and Bass (1991) is that it provides one theoretical framework that allows us to understand some very specific leadership styles.
