Organophosphorus toxicity By: Said Fathy Nasef Organophosphorus compounds (ops) They are organic compounds bearing phosphate group. They are a diverse group of chemicals, including insecticides (malathion, parathion, diazinon, fenthion, dichlorvos, chlorpyrifos, and others) and nerve gases (soman, sarin, tabun). used as insecticide. used as chemical warfare gases. uses Medicinally: Echothiophate as antiglucoma drug. Manifestation of toxicity 1- Decontamination Remove all clothing from and gently cleanse patients suspected of organophosphate exposure with soap and water. Irrigate the eyes of patients who have had ocular exposure using isotonic sodium chloride solution or lactated Ringer's solution. Management 2- General life support(ABC) of toxicity 3- Immediate aggressive use of Antidote (Atropine) 4- Cholinesterase reactivation(2-PAM) 5- Diazepam
