EMOTIONS How do you feel today? WHAT IS EMOTION? Emotion is a complex experience involving psychological and physiological responses, influencing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in reaction to specific events or situations. are closely related to mood, personality traits, and motivation, and they mold our "self," impacting ideas, behaviors, and personality through cognitive and physiological changes. Are less intense but longer-lasting than emotions, often without a clear cause, and they significantly impact perception, motivation, decision-making, and cognitive processes. Are conscious experiences from emotions or sensations, while emotions arise unconsciously and influence thoughts, desires, and behaviors. 1. A highly sought-after emotion, is a positive state that promotes satisfaction, well-being, resilience, and openness to new experiences, enhancing life fulfillment. Sadness is a common, temporary emotional state marked by loss, despair, and low mood, but when prolonged or intense, it can significantly impact well-being and lead to depression. Is a powerful emotion triggering the fight-or-flight response, preparing the body to face or escape danger through heightened focus, faster breathing, and increased readiness. Triggered by unpleasant tastes, smells, or sights, is thought to have evolved as a protective mechanism to help avoid harmful substances. Is a powerful emotion, often fueled by frustration or dissatisfaction, that activates the fight-or-flight response and can drive a strong urge to defend oneself against perceived threats. Is an emotional reaction to unexpected events, which can be experienced as positive, negative, or neutral, depending on the context. Emotions are personal and vary in intensity, triggered by different stimuli or life events. Emotions trigger the autonomic nerve system, which results in bodily reactions. These reactions can be intensified by matching facial expressions to emotions. Emotions are expressed through actions like breathing or smiling, shaped by cultural and personal factors, and healthy expression supports well-being, while suppression harms health. Suggests that physiological responses, such as a fast heartbeat or sweating, occur before emotional experiences, with the autonomic nervous system triggering the emotion. That facial expressions influence emotions, rather than being a response, with emotions directly linked to changes in facial muscles. States that stimulating events trigger feelings and physical reactions that occur at the same time. According to the Schachter-Singer Theory, we interpret physical excitement by trying to understand why it occurs, which involves bringing logic into the emotional process. Thought comes before emotion when a person evaluates a stimulus, which results in both an emotional experience and a physiological reaction. If you feel calm, you are ready to learn! Thank you.
