Module 4: intelligent Behaviors Seeing My Natural Ability INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES: At the end of this module,you will be able to: 1.conduct yourself effectively in defferent situations as well as convey ideas and thoughts to others 2.identify your natural qualities and behaviors,and 3.asses and improve your study habits. Fourteen Intelligent Behaviors: Performance can be greatly influenced by one’s behaviour.Behavior is define as the manner in which a person conducts himself/herself in varios circumstances.When a person is behaving intelligently,he/she is said to manifest 14 behaviors or disposition (Costa,2000) The following are 14 intelligent behaviors indicative of an efficient and effective problem-solver,many of which were originally compiled by Costa(2000): 1. Persistence. It means not giving up when the answer to a problem is not emmediately known. Persistence and Self-Esteem in general people with higher self-steem are more likely to persist on a difficult task than people with lower self-steem.This seems intuitive.If you believe you are a competent person with a good chance of succeeding at most things,you are less 2.Overcoming Impulsiveness. It involves planning,clarifying goals,exploring alternative strategies,and considering consequences before one begins a task. Practice Mindfulness This time-tested strategy helps sharpen self-awearness by encouraging you to focus your attention on the present moment and accept your thoughts and feelings without judgment. This technique helps you distance yourself from your urges and their triggers,which may allow you the space to decide to take a different course of action. 3.Listening to Others. Some Cognitive psychologiststhink that the ability to listen to another person and understand their point of view is one of the highest forms of intelligent behaviour. 4.Flexibility in Thinking.It is when one considers other points of view rather than running with the first thought that comes to mind. Flexibility Thinking is the ability to think about things in a new or different way.It help us deal with uncertainty,solve ploblems, adjust to changes,and incorporate new information into our plans and ideas. 5.Metacognition. It refers to the awareness of how one is thinking or the knowledge of what is going on in one’s head. It put simply thinking about one’s thinking.More precisely,it refers to the processes used to plan,monitor and assess one’s understanding and performance. 6.Checking for Accuracy and Precision. It is the behavior of not letting speed surpass the desire for craftsmanship. Accuracy measures how close result are the true or or known value.Precision,on the other hand,measures how close results are to one another.They are both useful ways to track and on project results. 7.Questioning and Problem-Posing. It means asking question and finding out problems for oneself. It is not just asking questions but seeing the value in asking the right questions.Wanting to understand the why and how and what and when and where of things.Knowing what information you will need to find to answer the questions and developing strategies to find It. 8.Applying Past Knowledge to new Situations it refers the act of calling upon one’s store of knowledge and experience as a source of data,theories,or processes to solve each new challenge. 9.Precision of Language and Thought a person with this behavior uses descripted terms to distinguish objects,and provide criteria for value judgements. It also refers to the ability to use language carefully and accurately,and to think clearly and logically. 10.Using all the senses. The senses of feeling,seeing,hearing,or even tasting are utilized to solve problems more effectively. Paying to what we see,hear,smell,touch,and taste can bring us into the present moment,avoke meaningful memories,and help us connect with other people in the world 11.Creativity It means applying ingenuity,originality,and insight.Creativity develops one’s capacity to generate original,unique,clever,or useful products,solutions,and techniques. Product of creativity may be intangible or a physical object. 12.Living with a Sense of Wonderment involves in this behavior are inquisitiveness,curiosity,and openness to beauty,intricacy,complexityand simplicity. It increased feelings of well-being, reduced stress,and enhanced creativity. 13.Cooperation it refers to taking advantage of the knowledge and insights that can only come as a result of social relationships. It is working together to accomplish shared goals. 14.Sense of Humor It refers to being able to look at situations,opportunities,problems and relationships with nonchalance and fun. Possessing many of these intelligent behaviors is an advantage in the corporate world.Business firms look not only for Knowledge and experience,but also for efficiency and effectiveness.The global war for talent is likely to intensify.Many firms and companies are already struggling to find enough well- trained,and inventive professionals.Which of the 14 qualities characterized your behavior?which do need to start working on?
