It involves an ability to judge and to appreciate art. It is a way of exercising and developing one’s taste for thing that are fine Criteria for Appreciating Art It implies an intellectual involvement with what is to be appreciated, be it: painting musical composition, piece of sculpture drama or a novel. It helps to understand what it is the: Artists make or what is it all about its elements and how these are put together in a harmonious pattern of relationship. LET’S FIND OUT THIS How artists can be creative, imaginative and expressive in working of art? What are the different ways of expressing yourself through art? Creativity in Art Making CREATIVITY - the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work. Creativity: - It require thinking outside the box. - It is used to solve problems that have never occurred before. - It conflate function and style. - Simply make life a more unique and enjoyable experience. - Set apart one artwork from another. To be Creative: - Artist does not simply copy or imitate another artist‘s work. - He does not imitate the lines, flaws, colors and patterns in recreating nature. - He embraces originality, put his own flaws into his work and call it his own creative piece. Tesorero 4 Example: “ It’s More Fun in the Philippines” – used by the Department of Tourism (DOT), boomed popularity in 2011, but later found out that it was allegedly plagiarized from Switzerland’s Tourism Slogan, “ It’s More Fun in Switzerland”, back in 1951. In DOT’s defense, former DOT secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. claimed that it was “purely coincidental”. Thus, creativity should be backed with careful research on related art to avoid such conflicts. IMAGINATION - The art or power of forming a mental image of something not present in the senses or never before wholly perceived in reality Where do famous artist get their ideas? Does it start in human Body, Heart? Mind? Does it all begin with imagination? Through Imagination: - One is able to craft something bold, something new and something better in the hopes of creating something that will stimulate change. - It allows endless possibilities. - It produces art that inspires imagination. ART AS EXPRESSION - An act, process or instance of representing in a medium. Through Expression: - An artist is able to explore his own emotion and at the same time create something beautiful out of them. - Artist have the freedom to express himself the way they want to. There are countless ways of expressing oneself through art: VISUAL ARTS – artists produce visual arts driven by their desires to reproduce things that they have seen in the way that they have perceived them. It includes paintings, drawings, lettering, printing, sculpture, digital imaging and etc. FILM – can be created by using one or a combination of some of all these techniques: motion picture camera and animal – techniques. Tesorero 5 PERFORMANCE ARTS – is a live art and the artists medium is mainly the human body which he or she uses to perform, but also employ other kind of art such as visual art, props or sound. It usually consists of four important elements: o Time and where the performance took place. o Performer or; o Performer’s body o Relationship between the audience and the performer. POETRY PERFORMANCE Poetry – is an art form where the artist expresses his emotion not by using paint, charcoal or camera, but expresses them through words. o These words combined with movements, tone, volume, and intensity of the delivery add to the artistic value of the poem. ARCHITECTURE – art is a process of creating beautiful thing while architecture is making of beautiful buildings. In building structures it should embody three important elements; plan, construction and design. The functionality of the structures remain with the striking balance of lines, colors and shapes completes the masterpiece. DANCE – is a series of movements that follows the rhythm of the music accompaniment. It is a creative form that allow people to freely express themselves. It has no rules. LITERARY ARTS – artists who practice literary arts use words not paint, musical instruments or chisel to express themselves and communicate emotions to the reorders. Tesorero 6 THEATER – uses live performers to present accounts or imaginary events before a live audience. o Theater art performances usually follow a script. o It considers several elements such as acting, gesture, lighting, sound effects, musical score, scenery and props o Some genres of theater includes dramas, musical, tragedy, comedy and improvisation. LET’S WRAP IT UP Art is a product of a man’s creativity, imagination and expression. Creativity is what sets apart one artwork from another. A creative artist does not simply copy or imitate another artist’s work. He does not imitate the lines, flaws, colors and patterns in recreating nature. Through imagination, artist is able to craft something bold, new, and something better in the hopes of creating something that will stimulate change. Through expression, an artist is able to explore his own emotions while at the same time, create something beautiful out of it. Expressing emotions is something different from describing emotions Some forms of art expression include visual arts, film, performance art, poetry performance, architecture, dance, literary arts, theater arts and applied arts.
