When no one does not have or cannot access formal education in schools, ALS is an alternative or substitute. ALS includes both the non- formal and informal sources of knowledge and skills. How does AlS work? There are two major programs on ALS that are being implemented by the Department of Education, through the Bureau of Alternative Learning System (BALS). One is the Basic Literacy Program and the other is the Continuing Education Program - Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) Basic Literacy Program (BPL) This program aims to provide illiterate out-of- school children, youth and adults the basic reading, writing and numeracy skills Accreditation and Equivalency Program (A&E) This is a certification of learning for out of school youth and adults who are unable to avail for the formal school system or who have dropped out for elementary and secondary education. Alternative Delivery Modes Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) of instruction had become an option of schools, parents, and learners to access education. Modified In School Off School Approach (MISOSA) The Modified In-School-Off-School Approach is an Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) of instruction that allows students to access education through a combination of in-school and off-school activities. Enhanced Instructional Management for Parents, Community and Teachers (e- IMPACT) It is a management system where the parents, teachers and community collaborate to provide the child with quality education at less costs. Why was e-IMPACT developed? To address high student population and high percentage of dropouts.3 Principles of e-IMPACT 1.Children become active participants of the learning process. Three Primary Modes of Delivery –Programmed Teaching –Peer Group Learning –Individual Study Principles of e-IMPACT 2.Learning materials are based on the national curriculum standards of the Department of Education. Principles of e-IMPACT 3. The essence of education is learning process. Principles of e-IMPACT 4. Learning can take place anywhere. Open High School Program (OHSP) The program provides an opportunity for elementary school graduates, high school drop-outs and successful examinees of the Philippine Education Placement Test (PEPT) to complete secondary education in a purely distance learning mode.
