# Chapter (12) ## The Professional Practice of Social Work In School Field In 1935 the league of social services established the school work in Alexandria. * School social work is part of program in schools on all levels from nursery school to college. The early practice of social work in Egypt was in two fields: 1. Community development projects in rural areas. 2. Schools in urban areas. ## Objectives of School Social Work: ### School Social Work Aims to Achieve Several Objectives Including: 1. Socialization of students properly. 2. Developing abilities of students to depend on themselves. 3. Helping students to collect their lessons. 4. Helping students to reach the maximum benefit from education. 5. Helping students to grow psychologically and socially. 6. Encouragement of students to form proper social relations among them. 7. Encouragement of students to form proper social relations with workers in school. 8. Resolve social related education problems. 9. Contributing to acquiring students constructive behavioral attitudes and criteria. 10. Contributing to acquiring students ethical values. 11. Helping school to publish its services in the area. 12. Contributing to religious education of students. 13. Providing students with available cadres, potentialities and services of the outside community. 14. Supporting strong understanding and coherence between school and guardians. 15. Preparing students socially and psychologically to benefit from educational process. ## Roles of social worker in school field: 1. Presentation of cooperation with teachers and school management. 2. Providing information relating to problems of students. 3. Supporting the relation among student's teachers and school management. 4. Suggestion of technique that provides the proper social atmosphere in school. 5. Motivating students to study, collection and achieving their goals in school. 6. Discussion of situations and problems of students with teachers. 7. Contributing to developing plans which are suitable for facing problems and situations. 8. Co-ordination between efforts of teachers and school management to achieve objectives. 9. Developing the policy which is suitable for care of students protectively and therapeutically. 10. Helping teachers to develop work relations and cooperate with societal agencies.
