ANS:- The advantages of exploiting resources with short term aims are: - It can meet the immediate needs of the masses. - We shall be able to get industrial growth at a rapid pace. ### Q.3. ANS:- Exploitation of resources with short term aims are beneficial for present day generation while managing with long term perspective are on sustainable basis and are aimed to fulfil the needs of future generations as well. ### Q. 4. ANS:- Natural resources of the earth must be equitably distributed among the people so that each and every one gets his share of the resources. Industrialists and some other rich persons who are in power want to grab all the resources. It is this section which is working against an equitable distribution of our resources. **Page No 273** Q.1. ANS:- We should conserve forests and wildlife because they are essential for us in following terms: - Forest provide us oxygen and also cause rainfall. - Forest prevent soil erosion. - Plants are dependent on animals and birds for their pollination and seed dispersal. - Food provide us various medicines and raw materials used in industries. ### Q.2. ANS:- Some approaches towards the conservation of forests Are: - Afforestation should be done and deforestation should be stopped. - Check on indiscriminate cutting of trees. - Forests should be saved from fires. Many forests get destroyed due to fires. - Overgrazing should be prohibited and national rules and laws should be strictly enforced. - Forests should be saved from pests and insects. Pesticides and insecticides should be sprayed in forests. **Page No 276** ### Q.1. ANS:- Many of us live in cities, where water is supplied by the municipal authorities. In the houses, system of rainwater harvesting are installed which collect the water running off and channel it into a special pit created for the purpose. This helps to recharge ground water. Efforts are being made to collect run off rain water in soak pits. This water enriches underground water and can cause rise in water table. ### Q.3. ANS:- The source of water in our region is groundwater. Yes, water from this source is available to all people living in our region. # Exercise question (Page No 278) **Q.1. ANS:-** We would suggest following changes in our home to make it environment friendly: - Separate wastes into recyclable and non recyclable by using separate dustbins. - Use electricity judiciously. - Reuse newspapers and use less plastic. - Have more windows in the house for natural light. - Try wearing sweaters and use less heater. - T.V., fans, light etc should be turned off while going outside the room. ### Q.2. ANS:- Following changes can be made in school to make it environment friendly: - Plant enough trees in the school. - There should be more windows in school for natural light. - Teachers should educate students about the value of environmental conservation. - Students should bring food in reusable boxes, not in plastic bags or in aluminum foil. ### Q.3. ANS:- The local people who live in or around the forest area should have the authority to decide the management of forest produces. These people know various aspects and practices to use the resources in sustainable manner. ANS:- The following measures can be taken: - Save electricity by switching off unnecessary lights and fans. - Walk or cycle whenever possible. - Turn the taps off while brushing. - Practice rainwater harvesting. ### Q.6.
