Definition of bone marrow Bone tissue is a spongy , fatty tissue found inside the body's largest bones , such as the breastbone , ribs and hip It has fuel and connection parts and it is responsible for the production of various blood cells , white blood cells and platelets. The numbers of these cells can be detected by performing (CBC) And if they are abnormally low or high , then the doctor may want to find out the reason by examining the bone marrow ( bone marrow aspiration ). Bone Marrow Aspirations A procedure in which a small sample of bone marrow is removed , usually from the hip bone , breastbone or thigh bone , a small area of skin and the surface of the bone underneath are numbed with an anesthetic then , a special wide needle is pushed into the bone. Use of bone marrow aspiration test , the doctor request a bone marrow aspiration to diagnosis the following conditions : -Blood cancers -Lymphoma -Multiple myeloma -Real fetal disorders -Fever of unknown cause Bone marrow aspiration is usually requested when abnormal results of a complete blood count or blood smear test appear , it may also be performed when the patient has a medical and family history of diseases and disorders related to the bone marrow , especially if the clinical examination of the patient and the symptoms he complains of indicate these disorders. A bone marrow aspiration or extraction analysis is also performed to determine the stage of cancer that the patient has reached or if the doctor suspects that the cancer has spread to the bone marrow. Steps for bone marrow aspiration examination The patient wears a special light garment so that the area from which the bone marrow extracted or suctioned is visible and he lies on his stomach or side. Checked the vital sings before the aspiration Is performed a local anesthetic it also used to numb the area from which the aspiration will be performed marrow , which is usually the upper edge of the back of hip bone , the sample may sometimes be taken from the breastbone. After that , the doctor uses a hollow needle to insert it through the skin into the bone and withdraw a sample from the liquid part of the marrow , the patient may then feel somewhat annoying pain , but it is bearable. After completing the withdrawal the nurse will bandage the area and the patient will be taken to another room to rest before leaving for his home. Things to pay attention to before performing the test -Avoid the menstrual period. -Get enough sleep.
