EXAMPLE: Mining is only for men , and nursing is for women.** **Income tax -- inviduals and companies pay for how much they earn.** **[Democracy and Human rights]** **Diversity -- means being different like your culture, race , place of birth , language.** **Discrimination -- Treating people unfairly and differently. You deny people's rights and privileges. E.g: Someone who has HIV, Living in rural area.** **Racism -- Treat someone different because of race.** **Bias -- to treat someone unfairly and Favor them unfairly based on culture or other aspects.** **Gender stereotyping -- treat people differently because they are a male or female.** **Religious discrimination -- to treat people different because of religion.** **Sexual orientation -- to be prejudiced against people with same sex relationships.** **Discrimination in workplace - Men get more money for the same job just because they are men.** **Xenophobia-preconceived/prejudiced idea about people from other country.** **[BILL OF RIGHTS]** **South Africa\'s first democratic elections were in 1994. South Africa\'s new Constitution became the supreme law of South Africa on 4 February 1997. ** **[Study Skills]** **[Listening]** **Active listening is being involved in conversation , paying attention, thinking about what is being said.** **Passive listening -- listen without being part of conversation.** **When you concentrate and listen, the information goes into your head and stays there.** **Comprehension -- Ability to analyse what you are reading.** **How to Increase concentration -- Avoid distraction , study in group , switch of cell phone.** **Mind map -- add facts keywords.** **Note taking -- listen with aim and write short sentences and key words.** **Essay -- understand and stick to topic, have a intro , body and conclusion.** **Select concepts and content -- look for key words and headings, sub heading.** **Creative thinking -- find original solutions to new challenges in life.** **Problem solving -- identifying strategies to make changes happen.** **Internal assessment -- happens inside school. like tasks and assessments.** **External assessment -- is exams. papers set outside of school by the department.** **[Social and environmental responsibilities]** **Social injustice -- people with limited choices , poor and suffer from discrimination. Social justice ensure equal rights.** **Environmental injustice -- people suffer from pollution , no water energy.** **Environmental justice -- people have shares benefits of healthy environment.** **Crime -- cause people to be angry , scared sad, people lose possession and live.** **Violence - cause injuries and death.** **Both of it violates bill of rights which states everyone has right to be safe.** **These 2 create fear , worry flashbacks , insomnia.** **Youth and civic organizations -- volunteering to address social issues in area. By doing it You can expand interest help build SA , become bolder.** **THINKING SKILLS** **Social thinking skills -- see problems and needs , and deal with it.you see others feelings and opinions.** **Constructive thinking skills -- Makes you think in helpful way.** **Logical thinking skills -- to reason clearly and correctly.** **Critical thinking -- gain knowledge and strengthen arguments.** **Informed decisions -- look for information about choices and consider with different possibilities.** **\ ** **[Career and choices ]** **[Economic sectors ]** **Primary -- raw materials , fisherman , coal workers** **Secondary -- turn materials into good so can be sold (builders, metal workers.)** **Tertiary -- provide services , teachers , actors , truck drivers.** **Quaternary sector -- research jobs , like Information Technology.** **Important skills -- 1. gather information ,2. analyse info , 3. Instruction on how to use skill.** **SAQA (South African Qualification Authority)- National overseeing body of NQF** **Aim -- advance aims of NQF and oversee further developments of NQF** **National qualifications framework(NQF) -- integrates education and training into 1 structure of recognised qualifications.** **Aim -- improve quality of education and learning, speed up redress of unfair discrimination in education.** **Life long learning -- contant learning and self development ,** **Ability to change -- ability to adjust , change and adapt.** **Re train -- learn a new skill to adapt.** **Flexible -- open to new idea of working, able to get on with co workers from diverse cultures and backgrounds.** **Formal learning -- provided by an education or training institution.** **Informal learning -- learn through daily activities in life like( learnt how to google information).** **Non formal learning -- learn via workshop , its not learning from an institution or lead to certification.**
