LESSON 9: TRENDS IN MEDIA AND INFORMATION Patterns of Media and Development 1. Innovation stage- Each mass medium starts with technological advancement. The development of mass media was made through the introduction of a new medium. 2. Penetration stage- New form of technology, it now enters the market, with the consumer buying and trying it. This stage is characterized by the public growing acceptance and positive evaluation of the invented medium. 3. Peak stage- Moment with medium reaches its maximum penetration is the peak stage. 4. Decline stage- Although a particular medium has been already reached its peak, sooner or later it will be challenged by a new form of media which may cause its decline. 5. Adaptation stage.-Where the old medium tries to redefine and redesign its position and presence in the media market this calls the adaptation stage. WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY Smart Watches Fitness Trackers Smart eye wear Smart clothing Medical devices Other infotainment devices 1. Smart watches-standalone personal communication devices that can be attached to a person’s wrist. Ex: I-phone watch 2. Fitness Trackers-Devices that use motion sensors to record exercise and health statistics and progress. Ex: heart beat wrist detector. 3. Smart Eyewear-Includes Virtual Reality (VR) –eye wear that can put functions of a smartphone or computer into user’s vision. Ex: Google glass. 4. Smart Clothing-heated apparel, medical apparel, work monitoring apparel. Ex: Duo skin. 5. Medical Devices- Devices used in diagnosis and helping patients in recovery. 6. Other infotainment devices- includes wireless headphones, simulation, etc. ACTIVITY 2 In a sheet of paper, draw 3 examples of wearable technology and give its uses or function.
