Lesson 3: How to Clear the Table/ How to Wash Dishes, Pots, and Pans How to Clear the Table Clearing a table is an essential part of maintaining a clean and organized kitchen. After meals, it's important to know the correct steps to clear the table efficiently and hygienically. This task not only ensures that your kitchen stays tidy but also helps prevent the spread of germs and keeps your utensils and dishes in good condition. Here are some helpful steps for thorough clearing: 1. Get a tray, a basin or a pushcart. 2. Start with the plates. Remove the leftovers and place them all together on one plate or bowl. 3. Arrange the plates by stacking them on one top of the other. 4. Place the glasses in one tray. Arrange them side by side as stacking them may cause difficulty when you separate them, 5. Put all the forks and spoons in one container to avoid dropping and scattering them. 6. Pots and pans should be placed on top of the other according to the size and in one corner of the sink. 7. Bring all the used dishes to the kitchen sink. Use a tray or cart if needed. 8. Clean the table after it has been cleared. ANALYSIS QUESTIONS: A. Proper washing techniques not only ensure that your cookware and utensils are free of food residues and bacteria but also help prolong their lifespan. Best practices for washing dishes, pots, and pans to keep your kitchenware sparkling clean and in great condition: 1. Rinse or soak pans, pots and other utensils. Soak those with sugar syrup or pots in hot water and those with cooked or uncooked starches in cold water. 2. For the used dishes, arrange them in the order of washing: glasses, plates, forks and spoons, and pots and pans. 3. It is important to remove all leftovers from the plates, glasses, etc. and then soak each in water to soften stubborn, sticking food. This also makes it easy for soaping and rinsing. 4. Prepare a soap solution in a small basin. 5. With the use of a sponge or cloth with a rough texture, start scrubbing the dishes thoroughly, starting from the inside and then at the back. Soaping should be done in the following order: glasses, plates, forks and spoons, saucers, and pots and pans. 6. Rinse each utensil with clean running water. If water is limited, full up three basins with water and rinse each glass, plate, fork and spoon, saucer, pot and pan in this order. HELE4 HANDOUT MR. NOLI S. ANALYSIS QUESTIONS: A. Why is it beneficial to rinse or soak pans, pots, and utensils before washing them? B. How does arranging items in the order of washing (glasses, plates, forks/spoons, and then pots/pans) contribute to a more effective cleaning process? C. Why is it important to prepare a soap solution in a small basin before starting to wash dishes? D. How does starting the scrubbing process from the inside of a dish and then moving to the back contribute to a more effective cleaning process? E. What are the advantages of allowing dishes to air dry versus wiping them with a towel? F. How does pouring hot water over dishes, pots, and pans serve as a method of disinfection? Values Integration: “DILIGENCE” Diligence is the quality of being careful and persistent in your work. It means paying attention to details and putting in the necessary effort to complete tasks thoroughly and correctly. In everyday activities, such as washing dishes, diligence ensures that everything is done properly, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene. By being diligent, we not only accomplish our tasks effectively but also take pride in our work, knowing that we've done our best. Diligence in washing dishes is important because it ensures that all food particles, grease, and bacteria are removed, making the dishes safe to use for your next meal. Thorough cleaning prevents the spread of germs and keeps your kitchen healthy. Clean dishes also contribute to a pleasant dining experience and show respect for those who will use them next.
