TO ENTERTAIN 10 TWO KINDS OF MOVEMENT 1. MOVEMENT WITHIN 2. MOVEMENT FROM THE BODY WHICH ONE SPACE TO INCLUDES THE HAND ANOTHER AND ARMS FEATURES OF DANCE 1. MUSIC It closely related to dance for it plays a significant role in it. It is used as accompaniment that somehow motivates the dancer’s movement. FEATURES OF DANCE 2. MOVEMENT It refers to action of dancers with the use of their bodies to create organized patterns. FEATURES OF DANCE 3. THEME It pertains to the content or main ingredient of the dance. It actually conveys the message of the dance. FEATURES OF DANCE 4. TECHNIQUES It refers to the skill in executing movement. As a dancer, one needs to have a complete control over the muscles of his body for him to be said technically proficient. FEATURES OF DANCE 5. DESIGN It refers to the arrangement of movements according to pattern in time (either fast or slow) and space (one’s position in relation to his background). FEATURES OF DANCE 6. PROPERTIES AND COSTUME These contribute to the visual effect of dance. The costumes can somehow relate closely to the beliefs and environment of people. TYPES OF DANCES Hip-Hop & Street Traditional (Folk Modern Ballroom Cheer Dance Dance and Ethnic) & Contemporary Festival Dance 18 THE ELEMENTS OF DANCE 19 Dance is comprised of various body motions that express feeling and emotion. Our bodies move in ways to express 1.BODY ourselves using locomotor and non- locomotor movements. 20 Energy is the force at which we express our body motions. Are you moving with hard motions? How do you choose to 2. ENERGY move? Bounce , shake , explode , or sway? 21 To show variation and movement, we need to use our surroundings well. We zigzag, move high and low. We use the 3. SPACE/LEVEL entire space around us and below us. 22 In dance, we often dance with one other person or with many people in a group. Just like with conversation, we 4. RELATIONSHIP communicate and react using our bodies. 23 Timing is key to any dance. We follow the rhythm or beat to match our actions with the sound of the music. When working with 5. TIME others, we sometimes mimic another using time. 24 THE 2 BASIC NATURAL MOVEMENTS 25 LOCOMOTOR NON-LOCOMOTOR Locomotor Movements - Moving the body from one place to another. - Walking is shifting one’s weight from one foot to the other. Non-Locomotor Movements - Or AXIAL MOVEMENT are done in place. - Bending or Flexing is moving the muscles around a joint where two body parts meet.
