1 -if they are out of early intervention and need help they can go to developmental -there are developmental program for autistic children 2 -40 years ago, if a child had a physical or intellectual disability, schools would say we can’t accommodate or have teachers that work with these types of kids and would send them away -parents began suing the board of education for this and the case went up to supreme court and say this is considered discrimination -this then passed IDEA 3 4 -avg class size is 18 -if they need educational services à they pull them out of classroom and provide those services -inclusion program à à they have two teachers à if the kid has problem they may seek help from the teacher who is trained at providing them help 5 -if the child had adhd or anxiety its best to put them in a smaller classroom 6 7 8 9 -board of ed does not diagnose anything and they may not provide help if they don’t have the funds for it -board of ed is good at providing help for adhd, they don’t refer out for adhd and they cannot diagnose adhd -outside eval is like 8 hours vs board of ed provides 3 hours testing. Outside eval does many other components and not just education 10 11 12 13 -if the kid is recognized to get help then the board of ed may give them IEP 14 15 16 17 -always ask the parents how the kid is doing in school à don’t just assume 18 19 20 21 22 23
