Importance of Social and Cultural In order to be an effective CHE provider you must understand: a. The ways people think about health and illness, b. How you and your actions are perceived by the community where you work. d. How culture interacts with environment, economy and politics to affect health. What is Culture • It is a system of thoughts & behaviors shared by a group of people. • Our cultural backgrounds have tremendous impact on our lives. Varies from local group to other group. Is valued for itself. Social and Culture Factors Factors that make differences between groups of people in given society: • Education, • Income & occupation, • Ethnicity & race, • Religion, • Geographic region. Social Factors • Many cultures can be within one society. Social Factors All humans share the need for: • Food. • Clothing. • Shelter. • Nonviolence/social justice. • Access to these factors.
